The anomaly: ArcSaber Z-Slash
An anomaly in the ArcSaber line
The ArcSaber Z-Slash broke every rule Yonex had established for the ArcSaber line. Where the ARC-10 was celebrated for control and even balance, the Z-Slash was deliberately head-heavy — stiff, powerful, and positioned as a fusion of ArcSaber precision and Voltric-like smashing capability. Released in 2010 in a deep red finish, it was unlike anything before or since in the ArcSaber catalogue.
What made it different
The frame used CS Carbon Nanotube combined with HM Graphite and Ultra PEF shaft material for a profile that contemporary reviews described as demanding but rewarding — 'a pedigree racquet that requires coaxing into greatness'. Available in 2U (90–94g) and 3U (85–89g), it catered to power players willing to sacrifice manoeuvrability for a heavier swing. It found a dedicated following in doubles, where its flat-drive capability and head-heavy punch were particularly effective.
The collector case
At $350, the Z-Slash is one of the more affordable ★★★☆☆ pieces in the database — which understates its historical significance as Yonex's boldest experiment in the ArcSaber line. For collectors tracking the evolution of Yonex frame philosophy, this is an essential outlier: proof that the company was actively interrogating its own design categories rather than simply iterating within them.
Head-heavy balance — unusual for the ArcSaber line, verify with hang test. CS Carbon Nanotube designation on frame. Deep red colorway distinct from all standard ARC-10 finishes. 2U/3U only. Ultra PEF shaft. Made in Japan. Standard Yonex hologram.
Inexpensive for its historical significance. Price will move with general ArcSaber collector interest. Essential for completionists building the full ArcSaber series.
