Duora Light: the only 5U Duora on Yonex’s list, in turquoise and navy

The 5U Duora

The Duora Light, item code DUOLT, was the lightweight of Yonex’s last export Duora range: a 5U frame (average 78 g) that Yonex rated Hi-Flex and sold in a single Turquoise/Navy finish. Every other Duora on Yonex’s international list came in 4U or heavier, from the Hi-Flex Duora 33 to the 2U/3U Duora 10 and Z-Strike. The Light arrived without a launch announcement, sat on that list beside the 10, 10 LT, 7, 33, 99 and Z-Strike, and was gone by March 2023, when Yonex cut the list to the Z-Strike alone.

Hi-Flex, graphite shaft, no release

Yonex’s product page is the only description of the racquet. It lists the frame as HM Graphite with Nanometric β, the shaft as graphite rather than high-modulus graphite, a built-in T-joint and a length 10 mm over standard, in 5U with G4 or G5 grips. Yonex recommends 19–24 lb. The page’s description and technology tabs are empty, and Yonex printed no balance, country of manufacture or price for it. No launch release has been found. The earliest Yonex page for it dates from April 2021; Yonex’s Duora list of September 2020 did not include it, so it is first documented in 2021.

No player

No Yonex report, staff page or release names a player on the Duora Light. Yonex presented it with no player, tournament or launch story, and its page describes only the specification.

One finish, and not the 10 LT

Yonex listed one design, Turquoise/Navy, under one item code, DUOLT, and made no player or limited edition. Its name invites confusion with the Duora 10 LT (DUO10LT), a Japan-made, stiff 4U frame in Pink/Yellow from the Duora 10 family, which has its own page. The Duora 33, the other Hi-Flex export Duora, is 4U. Yonex USA’s 2021 catalog names DUOLT only in its stringing instructions, in a group with the 10, 10 LT, 7, 99, Z-Strike and 33, and gives it no catalog page of its own.

About two years on Yonex’s list

Yonex’s international site showed the Duora Light in stock from its first page in April 2021, and its Duora list carried it from at least September 2021, one of seven Duoras, through 19 January 2023. By 23 March 2023 that list showed only the Z-Strike. Yonex published no discontinuation notice, so 2023 is the last year it is documented on sale new, not a production end. Yonex Japan’s racquet lists of 2021 do not include it, and no Yonex launch price is documented. No verified sales are recorded yet.

Mix-ups, not documented fakes

No counterfeit of the Duora Light is documented, and Yonex published no guide for it. The likelier problem is a name mix-up: listings that shorten either racquet to “Duora LT” can mean the Light or the 10 LT. Yonex’s general counterfeit test applies, the hologram sticker, which is hard to peel from a genuine racquet.

A late, light footnote

The Light was the last Duora seen joining Yonex’s international list and left it with all the others but the Z-Strike, a lightweight, flexible model added while the range was winding down. Its interest for a collector is that place: the only 5U frame in a series whose other models were 4U or heavier. The Duora 10 page tells how the series ended.

Authentication

Yonex’s item code is DUOLT. Yonex lists it in 5U only (average 78 g), with G4 or G5 grips, rates the flex Hi-Flex, and lists the frame as 10 mm longer than standard. The frame is HM Graphite with Nanometric β and the shaft graphite. The only documented color is Turquoise/Navy. Yonex printed no country of manufacture for it, so a country marking alone doesn’t identify it. A 4U label points to the Duora 33 or the Duora 10 LT, and a Pink/Yellow, Made in Japan frame is the 10 LT. Yonex recommends 19–24 lb.

Outlook

The Duora Light was sold for about two years in one color and one weight, so identity is simple to check: the DUOLT code, the 5U marking and the turquoise-and-navy finish. Be careful with listings titled “Duora LT”, which may be the 10 LT, and with weight claims that don’t match Yonex’s 5U. Ask for clear photographs of the cone, the T-joint and the frame edges, and look for cracks and repainting.
