Nanoflare 001 Ability: a 5U Hi-Flex starter Nanoflare in four colors since 2021
Ability: one name of three
The Nanoflare 001 Ability (item code NF-001A) is one of three Nanoflare 001 racquets that Yonex sells under their own names and codes, beside the 001 Clear and the 001 Feel. Yonex documents no difference between the three beyond the name, the code and the paint: each is Hi-Flex, graphite in frame and shaft, 10 mm longer than standard and made in 5U only. The Ability has worn four colors on Yonex’s global site: Black / Blue in 2021, Dark Purple in 2022, Flash Red from 2023, and Black / Red beside Flash Red by late 2025.
Graphite, 5U and Hi-Flex
Yonex’s global product page for the 001 Ability lists a graphite frame and a graphite shaft, Hi-Flex, a frame 10 mm longer than standard and 5U (average 78 g) with a G4 or G5 grip, and recommends 20–27 lb. Yonex USA’s 2024 catalog names its technologies: the Isometric head shape, the Sonic Flare System, the Aero Frame, a slim shaft and the Control Support Cap. Yonex Taiwan’s page gives a head-light balance, “SPEED” as its character and China as the country of manufacture. Yonex first documented the family in 2021: Yonex USA’s 2021 catalog lists NF001A, NF001C and NF001F in its stringing guide, and Yonex’s global site had a product page for each, in stock, by April 2021. No launch announcement or on-sale date is documented.
No named player
No player is documented using the Nanoflare 001 Ability. Yonex names no user on its global product page or in its 2024 catalog; the player cards on Yonex Taiwan’s page are not a record that anyone plays with this racquet.
Four colors, two siblings
Yonex’s global product page showed the Ability in Black / Blue in April and October 2021, in Dark Purple in June and November 2022, and in Flash Red from September 2023; Flash Red is also its color in Yonex USA’s 2024 catalog. By November 2025 the page listed Black / Red and Flash Red, and Yonex Taiwan lists Black / Red (color 187). The 001 Clear and 001 Feel have the same specification in other colors; each has its own page. The older “Nanoflare Ability” (item code NF-A, without the 001) is a different 4U frame, described below.
Where Yonex lists it
The 001 Ability is current. Yonex’s global site listed the 001 Ability, Clear and Feel in stock on its Nanoflare list in October 2026, and Yonex USA’s 2024 catalog carries all three without prices. Yonex Japan’s 2024–2026 catalogs do not list the family. The Japan Badminton Association’s 2025 lists of equipment that passed its approval test include the NF-001A and NF-001C codes, which shows only that the Ability and Clear were submitted for approval in Japan. One step up the same catalog page, the Nanoflare 002 models are 4U with an HT graphite frame and the TFA Cap Plus. No verified sales are recorded yet.
Names, colors and an older Ability
No counterfeit of the Nanoflare 001 models is documented. The confusion risks come from Yonex’s own naming. Three names share one specification; Yonex has changed each model’s color at least twice; and in late 2022 the 001 Clear was pink while the 001 Feel was black and pink. Yonex’s global site also listed a “Nanoflare Ability” with item code NF-A, a 4U Hi-Flex frame of graphite, Nanocell NEO and high-modulus graphite with a built-in T-joint, in Black / Magenta: a different racquet. The printed name and the item code settle which model a frame is.
A current graphite starter
The 001 Ability is a current entry racquet with no documented player, edition or production end. Its points of interest are the three-name family, which Yonex documents as one frame, and the dated color changes, which place a frame in its sales period.
Yonex’s item code is NF-001A. Yonex documents a graphite frame and shaft, Hi-Flex, a frame 10 mm longer than standard, 5U (average 78 g) with a G4 or G5 grip, and recommends 20–27 lb; Yonex Taiwan lists a head-light balance and China as the country of manufacture. Yonex’s colors for the Ability are Black / Blue (2021), Dark Purple (2022), Flash Red (from 2023) and Black / Red (listed by late 2025). A 4U label, an HT graphite or Nanocell NEO frame, or a built-in T-joint points to a Nanoflare 002 or the older Nanoflare Ability (NF-A), not the 001.
A current racquet, usually bought new as a first racquet. For a used one, check the printed name 001 ABILITY and the NF-001A code, the 5U label and a color Yonex listed for the Ability; because similar colors have appeared under different 001 names, rely on the name, not the color. Check the head and the frame–shaft joint for cracks and repainting.
