Nanoray 900
Model NR-900
Where to find it
The speed specialist: Nanoray 900
A different argument
The Nanoray 900 was Yonex's flagship head-light competition racquet in the mid-2010s, built around the idea that elite doubles players were being underserved by the market's obsession with head-heavy smash power. The NR-900 answered with a frame optimized for drive speed, net aggression, and rapid transitions — NANOMETRIC + SUPER HMG frame, X-FULLERENE shaft, T-ANCHOR joint, stiff flex, and an aerodynamic profile tuned for compact swing mechanics. It was not trying to be a Voltric.
What reviewers said
Reviewers praised the NR-900 for 'excellent flat drive shots with decent speed and power' and noted it was particularly rewarding on drop shots — 'the drop shots come with incredible speed and you will enjoy the extra weight in the racket frame'. The NR-900 challenged players to generate their own power rather than leaning on a head-heavy balance, demanding quick hands and a technically sound swing in return for exceptional shot velocity. In Navy Blue Made-in-Japan, it was one of the cleanest designs of the era: minimal graphics, premium materials, understated confidence.
The head-light case
At $280, the NR-900 represents the accessible end of Japan-made Nanoray collecting and a compelling entry point for players and collectors who believe the head-light doubles story deserves equal shelf space alongside the Z-Force and Astrox narratives. The NR-ZSPEED, its sibling with a Guinness World Record, commands similar prices. Together they form the top tier of an underappreciated series.
NANOMETRIC + SUPER HMG frame designations. X-FULLERENE shaft technology. T-ANCHOR joint at handle. Head-light balance — tips toward handle in hang test. Stiff flex. Made in Japan. Navy Blue colorway. Standard Yonex hologram.
The head-light flagship for an era when that was the right argument. Stable value with slow appreciation as Japan-made Nanoray specimens become genuinely scarce. Pairs naturally with the NR-ZSPEED for a complete top-tier Nanoray collection.
