Seven ways to play: Voltric 70 E-Tune
The world's first configurable racquet
Yonex marketed the Voltric 70 E-Tune as 'the world's first racquet to allow 7 possible configurations' — a claim backed with genuine engineering. Released alongside the VT-80ETN in 2014, the 70 was aimed at the transitional player: someone who wanted a head-heavy racquet's smash capability but wasn't yet ready to commit to the demanding swing weight of the 80ETN or Z-Force series. The E-Tune system gave them seven intermediate positions to find their own answer.
Why the 70 outperformed the 80 in reviews
The key difference between the two platforms was the shaft — the 70 used Ultra PEF with a medium flex profile, producing a noticeably more forgiving feel on mishits while still benefiting from the Tri-Voltage System's power architecture. Japanese reviewers gave it a swing score of 9.14 and control score of 9.04 — better in both categories than the 80ETN, suggesting the more accessible profile produced more consistent results across a wider range of player types.
The collector case
In the white colorway with E-Tune parts included in the box, the VT-70ETN is a clean, understated collector's piece from the final chapter of Yonex's analog customization era. The complete set — racquet plus the full complement of E-Tune grommets and weighted strips — is what defines a premium specimen. Units with all components present are increasingly difficult to find, as individual grommets are frequently lost during configuration experiments.
All E-Tune grommets and weighted strips should be present — their absence meaningfully reduces value. Ultra PEF shaft designation. Medium flex — notably more forgiving than the VT-80ETN. HM Graphite + NANOMETRIC frame. Made in Japan. White colorway. Standard Yonex hologram.
The more accessible E-Tune platform. Value held by the novelty of the concept rather than player association. Complete-set specimens command a meaningful premium over bare racquet examples.
