Where to find it
Entry point to a dynasty: Armortec 250 Lin Dan
The accessible signature
The Armortec 250 Lin Dan was Yonex's move to put Lin Dan's name — at the peak of his first Olympic gold-winning era — on an accessible price-point frame. Released in 2008, the year Lin Dan won his first Olympic gold at Beijing, the AT-250LD was manufactured in Taiwan and carried the LD branding without the premium Japan-made construction of his flagship racquets. Notably, only approximately 400 pieces were made available in the US market, giving this 'accessible' edition an unexpected scarcity in Western collector markets.
What the AT-250 platform was
The standard AT-250 used a Graphite + gForce Ti frame with a stiff shaft and the Delta Power frame design for aerodynamic stability. 3U weight class — capable for intermediate players but explicitly not the instrument Lin Dan competed with. What it offered was cultural access: holding the same branding as the reigning Olympic champion during the most exciting period in the sport's modern history. The contrast with the AT-700LTD is instructive — where the LTD was a $988 sealed commemoration, the AT-250LD was a $180 everyday connection to the same legend.
The snapshot in amber
At $180, the AT-250LD is the most affordable Lin Dan signature piece in the database. Its Taiwan manufacture and consumer-tier construction are precisely what make it historically interesting — a snapshot of how Yonex commodified a living legend for the club market in real time. For collectors, it completes the breadth of the Lin Dan ecosystem: from the $2,888 VTZF2LLD at the top to this $180 Taiwan-made piece at the bottom. The distance between them tells the full story of what Lin Dan meant to Yonex as a commercial property.
Lin Dan branding on shaft or frame. Graphite + gForce Ti construction — lower-tier than the Japan AT-700's Armortec carbon. Taiwan manufacture marking. 3U weight class (85–89.9g). Stiff flex. Standard Yonex hologram. Distinct from the standard AT-250 by LD graphics only — counterfeit risk low given accessible price point.
The entry tier of Lin Dan collecting. Price is stable at $180. Value appreciation will follow LCW's broader legacy curve but will always lag the Japan-made signature pieces significantly. Best understood as the base of a complete LD pyramid.
