The birth of Super Dan: Lin Dan's Armortec 700
Where the legend began
Lin Dan was 22 years old and already World Champion when Yonex handed him the Armortec 700 in 2005. Over the next three years — with this racquet — he would win the 2006 and 2007 World Championships, the Thomas Cup, and the 2008 Beijing Olympic gold medal. The AT-700 is not a nostalgia piece. It is the artifact from the period that made him the greatest player who ever lived.
The Armortec era
The AT-700 launched as Yonex's flagship power racquet: head-heavy balance, Armortec stiff carbon material, built for full-power smashing. In an era when head-light racquets dominated elite play, Lin Dan's choice of a head-heavy weapon was a statement. His game was built around smash angles that other players could not generate. The AT-700 was why.
Standard vs. LTD
The standard AT-700 and the commemorative AT-700LTD occupy different positions. The standard was Lin Dan's daily weapon — scratched from practice, used in multiple tournaments. The LTD was the sealed tribute. Both are collectible, but the standard offers genuine provenance at a fraction of the Limited's $988. For a first Lin Dan acquisition, the AT-700 is the accessible entry point.
Armortec carbon fiber weave visible on shaft cross-section. Head-heavy balance verified with pivot test. Stiff flex — minimal deflection under pressure. Made in Japan stamp. Standard Yonex hologram (pre-2010 design). Weight 88g ±2g (3U).
The anchor of any Lin Dan collection. Value appreciation is modest at this rarity level, but the historical significance is undeniable. Will always lag behind the LTD but offers Beijing 2008 provenance at $250.
