Where to find it
Built for the back: Armortec 800 Offensive
The back-court partner
The Armortec 800 Offensive was the back-court partner to the Defensive model — and where the Defensive was built for speed and touch, the Offensive was built for decisive power. Released simultaneously in 2006, the AT-800OF used a box cross-section frame that created a high-power hitting surface with maximum face stability. The stiff shaft transferred energy directly into every smash, designed for the player taking the point-ending strikes from the rear court. Power Armor System delivered the same 4% speed gain as the Defensive model — but applied to a fundamentally different swing profile.
What players found
Contemporary forum reviewers who tested both noted the Offensive 'felt like it had more power' with 'my shots much more accurate and powerful' compared to the Defensive variant. The box frame gave a distinctly more solid sound and feel at impact — a Carbonex-era heritage that the aerodynamic Defensive model couldn't match. Head-heavy balance, stiff shaft, Ultra HM Graphite + Ultimum Ti construction — this was Yonex's argument that the back-court smasher needed a different tool than the frontcourt controller.
The historical significance
The AT-800 Offensive and Defensive together prefigure the entire Astrox 88 S/D concept by over a decade. The AX-88S and AX-88D are more refined, more technologically advanced, and more precisely calibrated to their roles — but the concept was proven here in 2006. Collectors who own both AT-800 variants own the proof-of-concept for one of the most commercially successful doubles-specialisation product lines in badminton history.
Box cross-section frame — distinct from the AT-800DE's aerodynamic cross-section. Stiff shaft — noticeably firmer than the Defensive variant. Head-heavy balance. Ultra HM Graphite + gForce Ti frame. 4U weight. Made in Japan. Standard Yonex hologram. 'Offensive' or 'OF' designation on shaft.
No current tracked price — examples surface rarely. More sought-after than the Defensive variant among collectors due to head-heavy power spec. Best acquired as a pair with the AT-800DE for the complete doubles-specialisation story.
