Duora 77 LCW: the other racquet in Lee Chong Wei’s 2016 Exclusive line

A second racquet in the Exclusive line

Yonex announced the Lee Chong Wei Exclusive on February 25, 2016, as a “special limited line” of racquets, shoes, bags and apparel in a vivid blue-and-red motif with his logo. The announcement said the exclusive items “include a custom Lee Chong Wei DUORA 10” and gave no quantity. It named no other racquet, yet by February 28 Yonex USA’s Lee Chong Wei Exclusive page listed two: the Duora 10 LCW and the Duora 77 LCW, item code DUO77LCW, in Frosty Blue. Yonex Japan’s Exclusive page offered only the Duora 10 LCW, so the 77 LCW was an export item, the medium-flex, Taiwan-made sibling of the edition Lee is known for.

A Duora 77 in the Exclusive colors

Under the livery it is the standard Duora 77. Yonex’s pages give the same HM Graphite frame with Nanometric β, the same HM Graphite shaft, medium flex and 3U, and the same 19–26 lb stringing advice; only the description and color differ. Yonex USA gave the weight as an average of 88 g with G3 to G5 grips, Yonex UK as 3U (85–89.9 g) with a G4 grip. Yonex UK’s page says it is made in Taiwan, which matches the 77’s shaft print. That makes it a different racquet from the Duora 10 LCW, which is stiff, made in Japan and built with Nanometric DR and nickel-titanium fiber. Yonex’s product photograph shows a blue frame with red and white trim. The Duora 77’s own page covers the Dual Optimum System and the base model’s run.

His name, not his match racquet

Yonex ties the 77 LCW to Lee Chong Wei in three ways: the Exclusive collection’s name and logo, Yonex UK’s product-ambassador tab, which shows Lee with a general biography, and the Duora series quote from him that ran on every Duora page. None of them says he used it, and no Yonex report puts him on it. Yonex’s reports list him on the Duora 10 LCW for his 2016 titles, a story told on that edition’s page. What the 77 LCW offered was the Exclusive livery on a medium-flex, all-round frame, not a copy of the racquet he played.

One Yonex finish

Yonex listed one color for the 77 LCW, Frosty Blue, the same color name it gave the Duora 10 LCW; Yonex UK’s page has no color field. None of Yonex’s 2017 or 2018 international catalogs lists a 77 LCW, and Yonex USA’s 2019 catalog does not name it. Retail listings later sold frames under a DUORA-77LCW code as Jewel Blue and Red/Blue, colors no Yonex page lists or dates. The red Duora 77 that Yonex China added in December 2019, item 19DUO77EX, is a new color of the plain 77, not an LCW edition.

Two sites, two spans

Yonex USA listed the 77 LCW from February 2016 and still did in December 2016; by August 2017 its Exclusive page held eight products, none of them a racquet. Yonex UK carried it far longer, from at least March 2017 to a last capture in September 2019, and its page for the Duora 10 LCW ran to late 2019 as well. Yonex published no end notice, so the 2019 end year rests on the UK listing alone. No verified sales are recorded yet. Its interest for collectors is as the second, lesser-known racquet of the 2016 Exclusive line.

Mistaken for the Duora 10 LCW

No counterfeit of the 77 LCW is documented. The real risk is a mix-up between the two Exclusive racquets: both are blue with red trim in Yonex’s photographs and share the Frosty Blue name, so color alone does not separate them, and a seller may list either as Lee’s racquet. The item code, the flex rating and the country marking settle it, as the callout explains.

A footnote to the Exclusive line

Yonex made no second 77 LCW and named no successor. A later Lee edition on the Duora, the 2017 Legend Vision Duora 10, has its own page. In a Lee Chong Wei collection the 77 LCW is the 2016 Exclusive line’s second racquet, documented on two Yonex sites and never offered in Japan.

Authentication

Check the item code first: DUO77LCW, against DUO10LCW for the Duora 10 edition. Both are blue with red trim in Yonex’s photographs, so color alone does not separate them. The 77 LCW is medium flex, 3U only (average 88 g; 85–89.9 g on Yonex UK’s page) and made in Taiwan; the Duora 10 LCW is stiff, made in Japan and listed in 3U and 2U, so a Japan marking or a 2U label means a Duora 10. Run a finger around the head: one face should have a squared box profile and the other a slimmer aero profile. Jewel Blue and Red/Blue frames sold under the 77 LCW code are retail colors without a Yonex listing. Yonex’s own counterfeit test is the hologram sticker, which resists lifting on a genuine racquet.

Outlook

Buy it for what it is: a medium-flex Duora 77 in Lee Chong Wei’s 2016 Exclusive colors, not his match racquet. Confirm the DUO77LCW code and the Taiwan origin before paying for an LCW name, and treat any claim that Lee used it as unproven. Frosty Blue is the only Yonex-listed color. Ask for daylight photographs of the whole frame, both head profiles and the cone, and look for cracks and repainting.
