Isometric Power 200: the Advanced-level Power frame of Yonex’s 1996 catalog

The other Power

Yonex’s 1996 Asian catalog groups its Isometrics under Slim, Tour, Power and Long. Under “Power” stand two frames: the Professional-level Power 600 and the Advanced-level Power 200, both with the Built-In T-Joint and the line “High speed power player.” Unlike the Slim 10, 250 Long and 150 Long, the Power 200 has no New tag, so it may have been on sale before the catalog; no earlier Yonex document is known, and the scan’s 1996 date is the scan host’s.

Graphite frame, high-modulus shaft

The catalog prints a graphite frame on a high-modulus graphite shaft and rates it 3 for flex and 4 for power and control. The shaft matches the 250 Long’s and the Power 600’s; the frame is one step below the Power 600’s high-modulus build. Yonex prints no flex word, weight class, balance point, length, made-in country or item code, so those fields stay “Not documented.”

No named player

Yonex names no player for the Power 200, and the spread carries no player photographs. “Advanced” is a player level, not a user.

Beside the Power 600

The Power 600 beside it is rated 5 across the board with a high-modulus frame and has its own page; the Power 200 carries the same tag line, while the Long frames carry “High speed touch player.” In the catalog photo the Power 200 has a dark teal-green hoop with white near the throat, a dark shaft and a black soft cover lettered in gold. Yonex names no color, and no edition is documented.

One catalog, then gone

The 1996 catalog is the only Yonex document that names the Power 200. Yonex’s spec chart of 1999 and Yonex USA’s Isometric page of 1999 do not list it, and the 2000 Asian catalog’s Isometric pages omit it. No catalog or list from 1997 or 1998 is documented, so 1996 is its last documented year, not a production end. No Yonex document found prints a price for it. No verified sales are recorded yet.

Checking the name

No counterfeit of the Isometric Power 200 is documented. Because the Power 600 shares the “Power” name and the same tag line, the printed model name decides the match. Yonex Japan’s Isometric 250 and the later Swing Power frames are different racquets.

Between the 500 and the Swing Power

The Power 200 is a short-documented 1990s Isometric known from one catalog spread: a name, a tag line, three ratings and a photograph. It fills the middle of that year’s Isometric spread, between the Professional frames and the Longs.

Authentication

Yonex documents the Power 200 only in its 1996 catalog: graphite frame, high-modulus graphite shaft, Advanced level. Item code, weight class, flex word and country of manufacture are not documented. The model name is the check: “Isometric Power 200” (or the name print on the frame), not “Power 600”, “250 Long” or a bare “Isometric”. Colors come from the catalog photo only (dark teal-green hoop, black cover). Check the throat, hoop and grommets for cracks on a frame this old.

Outlook

The Power 200 appeals to a collector completing the 1996 Isometric spread. With one Yonex source, weight, length and made-in country are seller claims until a Yonex record turns up. Confirm the exact name against the Power 600, which shares the tag line, and check the throat and shaft in photographs.
