The Razor: Nanoflare 800
The Razor Frame innovation
The Nanoflare 800 introduced a frame design innovation that Yonex would spend the next several years iterating on: the Razor Frame. Unlike conventional thin frames that only reduced air resistance from the front, the NF-800's 360° streamlined Razor Frame minimized drag from all approach angles — Yonex measured an 11.5% reduction in air resistance compared to standard thin frames. The result was measurably faster swing speeds and earlier shuttle contact. Released in 2019 in Matte Black, it became one of the most photographed racquets in the Nanoflare line.
What players said
Forum users who compared the NF-800 directly to the ArcSaber 11 described it as 'a much more solid racquet with a harder feeling head' and 'stiffer' — meaningfully different character despite similar balance specs. One long-form player review described it as the racquet that made them 'love doubles again'. Made in Japan, stiff flex, head-light balance — the NF-800 occupies a specific and rewarding position for doubles players who want speed without sacrificing presence at impact.
The original before the Pro family
The NF-800 is now being phased out in favor of the 800 PRO, TOUR, and PLAY family — making the original Japan-made Matte Black a finite run. At $280, it's the last chance to own a first-generation Razor Frame specimen before the platform evolves further from its origins. The Matte Black finish ages differently from lacquered surfaces; perfect-condition examples will become genuinely scarcer as the design moves on.
Razor Frame 360° designation on frame. Matte Black finish — flat to touch, no shine under direct light. Stiff flex. Head-light balance — tips toward handle in hang test. Made in Japan. Sonic Metal construction. Standard Yonex hologram. Distinct from the 800 PRO and 800 TOUR which have different shaft designations.
First-generation Razor Frame collectible. Appreciation will follow as the Pro family replaces it in production and original specimens become scarce. Buy Matte Black in mint condition while available under $300.
