ArcSaber Light 5i: the China-made 5U ArcSaber known only from Yonex China’s list
An ArcSaber from Yonex China
The ArcSaber Light 5i (Yonex China item code ARC5I-2CR) is a lightweight ArcSaber that Yonex documented only on its Chinese website. Yonex China listed it in 2020 and 2021 as a China-made frame in the 5U class (about 78 g) with a G5 grip and a medium hitting feel, in orange or lime. No Yonex page for it in any other market is known, although shops outside China have sold it under the code ARC-LT5IEX.
First listed in February 2020
Yonex published no launch date or release for the Light 5i. Yonex China’s ArcSaber list did not show it in December 2019 and did by February 19, 2020, and its product page is documented two days later, so 2020 is its earliest documented year rather than a known launch date. The page gives a carbon frame and a carbon shaft (碳素), 5U (about 78 g) with grip G5, and a medium hitting feel (中等). Yonex China recommended 19–27 lb at first and 20–28 lb on the page from September 2020. The page describes no ArcSaber technology for the model and gives no balance.
No player on record
Yonex China’s page names no player for the Light 5i, and no Yonex source links one to it. Its place near the bottom of Yonex China’s ArcSaber price list, above only the ArcSaber Lite, marks it as a recreational frame.
Two colors and several near-namesakes
Yonex China listed one item code in two colors: orange (005) and lime (281, 酸橙绿). Shops outside China describe a black-and-lime version; Yonex documents no black color name for it. The ArcSaber Lite (ARCLT; ARCLTGE in China) is a different, older model: a China-made 4U frame (about 83 g) from 2015 that stood beside the 5i on Yonex China’s list; it has its own page. Retailers also sell ArcSaber Light 1i, 2i, 6i, 10i and 15i models and “i”-numbered Voltric and Astrox Lites; Yonex China’s ArcSaber and Voltric lists of 2020–2021 show none of them, and no Yonex source for them is known. An earlier lightweight ArcSaber, the Japan-made ArcSaber FB (2013–2018, F and 5U), is a different frame; it has its own page.
On Yonex China’s list, 2020–2021
Yonex China’s ArcSaber list in 2020 and 2021 carried eight racquets: the ArcSaber 11, the Lite, the Light 5i, the TP3, 8PW, TP1, 6FL and FD. The 5i was the second-cheapest of them. It was still on the list in June 2021; no later version of that list is known, so 2021 is the last year it is documented on sale new, not a stated production end. Yonex China’s price was a suggested retail price in yuan; no US or Japanese launch price is documented. No verified sales are recorded yet.
Mix-ups more than fakes
No counterfeit of the Light 5i is documented. The practical risk is identity: “Light” and “Lite” appear on several light China-made frames, and the retailer-only “i” models share the naming pattern. The 5U class and the 5i name separate it from the 4U ArcSaber Lite.
A footnote to the ArcSaber line
The Light 5i was a regional entry-level model, documented on Yonex China’s list for about a year and a half. Among the “Light i” ArcSabers it is the only one with a known Yonex page, which separates it from the retailer names around it. For a collector of the series it is a footnote: a China-made, 5U frame with no player, edition or technology story attached.
Yonex China’s item code is ARC5I-2CR; shops outside China use ARC-LT5IEX. Yonex China documents a China-made frame, 5U (about 78 g) with grip G5, a carbon frame and carbon shaft and a medium hitting feel, in orange (005) or lime (281). Yonex China recommended 19–27 lb in early 2020 and 20–28 lb from September 2020. Yonex documents no balance and no 4U or 3U version. A 4U frame in black or red named ArcSaber Lite is a different model (ARCLT). Frames sold as Light 1i, 2i, 6i, 10i or 15i are other retailer-named models with no known Yonex page. Check the frame’s name print, weight-class marking and made-in marking.
Look for the ARCSABER LIGHT 5i name and a 5U marking; orange or lime is the documented color, and a black-and-lime frame is a retailer description Yonex did not print. Yonex documents no player, edition or second item code, so treat any claim of a special version as unproven. As a light recreational frame, most surviving examples will have seen club play: check the head and shaft for cracks and the grommets for wear.
