Astrox 22 RX: a stiff 68 g Astrox, launched abroad in 2021 and added in Japan for 2024
The heavy one of three new 22s
Yonex USA’s 2021 catalog, published by February 2021, introduced three light Astrox models numbered 22, each under its own item code: the 22 RX (AX22RX), the 22 F (AX22F) and the 22 LT (AX22LT), which Yonex China had listed since February 2020. The RX was the heaviest, stiffest and most expensive of the three: a 2F frame averaging 68 g, rated stiff, at a $220 launch price, against 3F (63 g) and medium for the other two. The same pages still carried the older Astrox 22 (AX22), a Matte Black 2F frame also rated stiff. Of the three new models, the RX is the one Yonex later added in Japan, and in 2026 the only one still on Yonex’s global store.
A Rexis shaft on a 68 g frame
Yonex lists a frame of high-modulus graphite and tungsten and a shaft of high-modulus graphite with Nanomesh Neo, joined by a built-in T-joint, in a frame 10 mm longer than standard. Its technology list adds the Rexis Shaft, which Yonex describes as a high-performance shaft precisely designed with its own molding technique, a slim shaft and the Energy Boost Cap; the older Astrox 22 listed a Power Boost Cap and no Rexis. Yonex Japan calls the RX a 2F lightweight Astrox whose shaft design raises swing speed and power. Yonex rates it stiff on its global site and in its US catalogs and recommends 20–28 lb. It prints no balance word. The balance gauge in Yonex Japan’s catalogs puts the RX on the head-heavy side, but only just: the mildest lean of any Astrox on that chart.
Made for intermediates, no professional on record
No professional player is documented using the Astrox 22 RX, and none of Yonex’s pages for it names one. Yonex Japan’s rating grid marks it for intermediate men and women and leaves the advanced and beginner columns blank.
Dark Red, then Black/Gold
Both colors use the one item code, AX22RX. Dark Red came first, in the 2021 US catalog and on Yonex’s global store in May and December 2021. By March 2023 the global store showed Black/Gold (color 184), with no change to the listed specification; it is the only color Yonex Japan has listed and the one in Yonex USA’s 2024 catalog. Yonex’s Far East site still shows Dark Red. No player or limited edition of the 22 RX is documented. In Japan it carries the Japan Badminton Association’s certification mark, and Yonex Japan lists its own grommet set for it, AC416AXF.
In production, made in Taiwan
The 22 RX is in production. On October 4, 2026, Yonex’s global store showed it in stock in Black/Gold and Yonex Japan’s product list carried it; it is also in Yonex Japan’s 2026 catalog. Japan came late. Yonex China’s Astrox list of June 2021 had the 22 LT but not the RX, and Yonex Japan first listed it, with a “new” mark, in December 2023, ahead of its 2024 catalog, which introduced it in Black/Gold, made in Taiwan, at ¥21,000 before tax. New stock sells at retail, so resale is about pre-owned frames. The verified sales shown above are pre-owned frames from Asia resale.
The wrong 22
No counterfeit specific to the Astrox 22 RX is documented, and Yonex published no guide for it. The trap in listings is the number. Yonex has sold four Astrox models numbered 22, all 10 mm longer than standard. The 22 F and the 22 LT, which have their own pages, are 3F frames rated medium in Yonex USA’s catalogs; the older Astrox 22 is a 2F stiff frame like the RX, but with a Power Boost Cap and no Rexis shaft. A listing that says only “Astrox 22” does not identify the racquet. Copied spec sheets are weak evidence too: Yonex’s global store recommends Nanogy 95 for control players and Skyarc for hard hitters, while Yonex Japan’s shop gives the reverse.
The 22 that stayed
No Yonex source names a successor to the 22 RX. The 22 LT and 22 F were removed from Yonex’s global store by October 2026, while the RX stayed and gained the Japanese listing it lacked at launch. It is a standard model made in volume with no player link and no limited color, so nothing documented makes it collectible yet; a discontinuation or a special edition would change that. Its two designs help date a frame: Dark Red is the launch design, documented in 2021, and Black/Gold the design from 2023 on.
Yonex’s item code is AX22RX. Check for Dark Red or Black/Gold, a 2F label (average 68 g) and a frame 10 mm longer than standard. Yonex lists stiff flex, high-modulus graphite and tungsten in the frame and high-modulus graphite with Nanomesh Neo in the shaft, and Yonex Japan gives Taiwan as the origin. A 3F (63 g) “22” is the 22 F (Black/Lime) or the 22 LT (Dark Green or Black/Red); a Matte Black 2F frame without “RX” is the older Astrox 22 (AX22). Yonex Japan lists its grommet set as AC416AXF. Yonex’s own test is the hologram sticker, which resists peeling on a genuine racquet and lifts easily with a fingernail on a fake.
This is a current racquet, so most players will buy it new. Yonex recommends 20–28 lb. For a used frame, confirm the AX22RX code and the 2F label, since a lighter 3F frame is a different model, and check the head and the frame-shaft joint for cracks. Dark Red is the 2021 design and Black/Gold the current one; Yonex lists the same specification for both.
