Carbonex 8200 Light: Yonex USA’s extra-flexible 3U Carbonex of 2002–2004
The light, soft member of Yonex USA’s Carbonex page
The Carbonex 8200 Light was one of three racquets on Yonex USA’s Carbonex page from 2002 to early 2004, beside the Carbonex-20 Muscle and Carbonex-23. Yonex rated it Extra Flexible and listed it in 3U, which set it apart both from those two and from the plain Carbonex-8200 that the same site had listed in 2001 as Flexible and 2U.
What Yonex USA printed
Yonex gives no launch date; the model first appears on Yonex USA’s Carbonex page in August 2002, so 2002 is the year it was first documented. Its spec page, headed “Carbonex 8200LT”, gives Extra Flexible, 3U (85–89 g), grip G4, power and control each rated 3, and a built-in T-joint, and marks it without a Muscle Power frame, Ultimum Ti, titanium mesh or an isometric head. Yonex recommends 14–16 lb on the mains and 16–18 lb on the crosses. The page prints no frame or shaft material, balance or country of manufacture.
No player on record
No Yonex page connects a player to the Carbonex 8200 Light. The Carbonex page’s text about top professionals refers to the series’ box shape, not to this model.
Not the 8200, not the 8000 Light
Yonex USA’s 2001 Carbonex page lists a Carbonex-8200 with a graphite frame and shaft, Flexible and 2U; the Light differs in name, flex rating and weight class, and Yonex does not say whether the frames are related. The Carbonex 8000 Light of Yonex’s international list (2008–2011) is a later model with its own name and a Flexible rating at launch; nothing in Yonex’s text links the two. The 1996 Asian catalog also names a Carbonex 8200, as a beginner model. The 8000 Light has its own page.
A US-site model
The 8200 Light is documented only by Yonex USA. It was listed from August 2002 to February 2004; by June 2004 the Carbonex-20 Muscle was the only racquet left on the page. No Yonex Japan or international listing of it is known. No verified sales are recorded yet.
A question of numbers
No counterfeit of the Carbonex 8200 Light is documented. The practical risk is identity: the plain Carbonex 8200, the 8000 Light and the other 8000-series names.
A short-lived US listing
For a collector the 8200 Light is a small footnote to Yonex USA’s early-2000s range: about eighteen months on one page, with a spec page that gives its flex and weight but not its materials or origin.
Yonex USA lists the Carbonex 8200 Light (spec page “Carbonex 8200LT”) as Extra Flexible, 3U (85–89 g), grip G4, with a built-in T-joint and no titanium mesh. Yonex recommends 14–16 lb mains and 16–18 lb crosses. A 2U frame named plain “8200” is the earlier Carbonex-8200. Yonex printed no frame material or country of manufacture, so read those from the frame itself.
The 8200 Light is documented only by Yonex USA’s pages of 2002–2004, so a frame is now more than twenty years old. Check the head, the T-joint and the grommets for cracks, and read the printed name and weight class: several Carbonex models share the 8200 and 8000 digits.
