Duora Z-Strike

Where to find it
The dual-frame wildcard: Duora Z-Strike
Between two racquets
The Duora Z-Strike occupied a strange and compelling position in the 2017 Yonex lineup: positioned 'between the Duora 10 and the Voltric Z-Force II' on the racquet matrix — neither pure control nor pure power, but borrowing DNA from both. The Z-Strike retained the Duora's signature Dual Optimum System (Box frame on the forehand side, Aero frame on the backhand side) but applied it to a more compact, Z-Force-inspired head with an extra stiff, extra slim shaft.
The asymmetric grommet innovation
A key innovation was the Duora Grommet System, which placed asymmetric grommets at the 12 o'clock position — thicker on the Aero side — creating a stiffer string bed that amplified forehand power without sacrificing the backhand speed the Duora concept was built around. Reviewers consistently described the result as fast, punishing on drives, and surprisingly head-heavy in hand despite the even-balance official spec. Viktor Axelsen was associated with the Z-Strike during this period, lending it competitive credibility that matched its aggressive engineering brief.
Quietly scarce
Produced in Japan in the distinctive black-and-white colorway in 2U/3U only, the Z-Strike is one of the more underrated pieces in the Duora series — technically ambitious, competitively proven, and now quietly scarce. As the Duora line was retired in favor of the Astrox series, the Z-Strike's short production window and limited international distribution make it harder to find in mint condition than its secondary market price suggests.
Dual-profile shaft cross-section verifiable under magnification. Asymmetric Duora Grommet System at 12 o'clock — thicker grommet on Aero side. Black-and-white colorway specific to this model. Extra Stiff flex. HM Graphite + NANOMETRIC. Made in Japan. Standard Yonex hologram. Even balance — heavier in hand than spec suggests.
Underappreciated Duora variant with genuine engineering innovation and Axelsen-era provenance. Short production window and Japan-only quality tier. Appreciation will follow general Duora collector interest.
