Muscle Power 22: the flexible 2U base of Yonex USA’s Muscle Power list, 2003–04
The bottom of the 2003 list
The Muscle Power 22 was the lowest model on Yonex USA’s Muscle Power list of December 2003, below the stiffer Muscle Power 33. Yonex rated it Flexible and offered it only in the heavier 2U class. It never appeared on Yonex Japan’s lists, and no Japanese twin is documented.
What Yonex’s spec page lists
Yonex USA’s specification page of December 2003 gives the Muscle Power-22 a Flexible rating, power and control scores of 5 each, 2U (90–94 g) with grip G4, and a stringing recommendation of 18–20 lb on the mains and 20–22 lb on the crosses. It ticks the Muscle Power frame, the Isometric square head and a built-in T-joint, and marks Ultimum Ti and titanium mesh as not used. Yonex printed no frame or shaft material, balance, length or factory.
No player on record
No player is documented using the Muscle Power 22, and Yonex named none on its pages.
Namesakes and near-twins
The 22 and the Stiff 3U Muscle Power 33 were listed together and share their frame features and grip. The later MP-23 POWER, on Yonex USA’s list by October 2005, is also Flexible, 2U and G4, but Yonex gave it a different name and documented its graphite frame and shaft, which the 22’s page never stated, so no Yonex source makes them one racquet. The Muscle Power 22 LT on Yonex’s international list in 2008 is a different, later model. No colorway or edition of the 22 is documented.
A few months on Yonex’s list
Yonex USA’s Muscle Power list first shows the 22 on 10 December 2003 and still shows it on 4 February 2004; by 5 June 2004 it had gone. No launch date is documented, so 2003 is its earliest Yonex-documented year and 2004 the last year a Yonex list shows it. No Yonex price is on record. No verified sales are recorded yet.
Copies and markings
No counterfeit of this model is documented. The likelier mix-ups are with the MP-23 POWER, which shares its flex, weight class and grip, and with the Muscle Power 22 LT, a different model with a near-identical name.
A short-lived entry model
The Muscle Power 22 is documented only by Yonex USA’s list and one specification page, and its place at the bottom of the line passed within months to the Muscle Power 30 and, later, the 23 POWER.
Check the frame reads Muscle Power 22 without an “LT” suffix and that the weight label is 2U, the only class Yonex offered. Yonex documents the Muscle Power frame, an Isometric square head and a built-in T-joint, with no Ultimum Ti or titanium mesh. Yonex recommended 18–20 lb mains and 20–22 lb crosses. No colorway, factory or item-code print is documented, so judge an old frame by its markings and condition, and tell it from the MP-23 POWER by the name on the frame.
A brief US listing at the foot of the Muscle Power line, of interest mainly to series completists. Confirm the exact name, since the 22 LT and 23 POWER are separate models, and the 2U label. Seller claims about balance or materials go beyond what Yonex documented.
