Muscle Power 33: the stiff, short-lived lower model on Yonex USA’s 2003–04 list
A stiff frame below the 77
The Muscle Power 33 is one of two models, with the Muscle Power 22, that Yonex USA listed beneath its numbered Muscle Power line for a few months around the turn of 2004. Yonex rated it Stiff, a firmer flex than the Medium MP-88 above it, in a single 3U class. It never appeared on Yonex Japan’s lists, and no Japanese twin is documented.
What Yonex’s spec page lists
Yonex USA’s specification page of December 2003 gives the Muscle Power-33 a Stiff flex, power and control scores of 5 each, 3U (85–89 g) with grip G4, and a stringing recommendation of 16–18 lb on the mains and 18–20 lb on the crosses. It ticks the Muscle Power frame, the Isometric square head and a built-in T-joint, and marks Ultimum Ti and titanium mesh as not used. Yonex printed no frame or shaft material, balance, length or factory for it.
No player on record
No player is documented using the Muscle Power 33, and Yonex named none on its pages.
Beside the Muscle Power 22
Yonex USA’s list of December 2003 ran the 100, 99, 88, 77, 33 and 22. The 22 shares the 33’s frame features and grip but is Flexible and 2U; the 33 is the stiffer and lighter of the pair. No colorway or edition of the 33 is documented. By June 2004 both had gone, and the list’s lower models were the 66, 44 and 30.
A few months on Yonex’s list
Yonex USA’s Muscle Power list first shows the 33 on 10 December 2003 and still shows it on 4 February 2004; the list of 5 June 2004 no longer does. No launch date is documented, so 2003 is its earliest Yonex-documented year and 2004 the last year a Yonex list shows it. No Yonex price is on record. No verified sales are recorded yet.
Copies and markings
No counterfeit of this model is documented. The more likely confusion is with its numbered neighbors: the MP-30, MP-40 and Japan-market MP-45 are different frames, and the later Muscle Power 22 LT, 29 Light and 21 are different models again.
A footnote in the line
The Muscle Power 33 is one of the shortest-lived models in the series’ export range, documented only by Yonex USA’s list and one specification page. Its Stiff rating sets it apart from the softer lower models that replaced it.
Check the frame reads Muscle Power 33 (Yonex lists it as Muscle Power-33) and that the weight label is 3U; Yonex offered no other class. Yonex documents the Muscle Power frame, an Isometric square head and a built-in T-joint, with no Ultimum Ti or titanium mesh, so a frame claiming those materials is a different model. Yonex recommended 16–18 lb mains and 18–20 lb crosses. No colorway, factory or item-code print is documented, so judge an old frame by its markings, grommets and overall condition.
A rare name from a brief US listing rather than a collectible flagship. Confirm the model name and 3U label, and don’t take a seller’s flex or balance claims beyond Yonex’s own Stiff rating. Treat any frame described as a Japanese model as a mix-up: Yonex Japan never listed it.
