Muscle Power 29
Model MP-29
Where to find it
One step up: Muscle Power 29
The intermediate rung
The Muscle Power 29 sat in the intermediate tier of the 2005 Muscle Power lineup — above the entry-level MP-23, below the Japan-made MP-88 that was simultaneously serving as Lee Chong Wei's professional weapon. Made in China, the MP-29 offered a slightly stiffer flex and more responsive feel than the MP-23, with the Muscle Power rounded grommet system providing better string-bed energy transfer than budget-tier competitors at the same price point.
The equipment boom context
In 2005, badminton was undergoing a global equipment boom driven by LCW's and Lin Dan's rise to prominence. The MP-29 was the frame that millions of club players worldwide used to get serious about the sport for the first time. Its HM Graphite construction in both frame and shaft without titanium alloys kept the swing characteristics predictable and approachable for developing players — a deliberate design choice to support players building technique before committing to more demanding equipment.
A place in the pyramid
Its place in this database is contextual: a reference point for the bottom of the MP pyramid that produced the MP-88 at its apex. No secondary market price is tracked because examples are common and rarely preserved in collector condition. For the historian building a complete Muscle Power shelf, the MP-29 is the second chapter — the frame that proves the distance between grassroots and professional was, at this moment, a question of manufacturing country and material grade, not fundamental design philosophy.
