Nanoray 7000LD: the heaviest racquet of Lin Dan Exclusive II, on an aluminum frame

The aluminum racquet of Exclusive II

The Nanoray 7000LD is the heaviest racquet in Lin Dan Exclusive II, the second limited collection Yonex built around him in 2015, and the only one with an aluminum frame. Yonex lists it as item NR7000LD: medium flex, an aluminum frame with a shaft of graphite, NANOMESH and carbon nanotube, 2U (average 93 g) in grip 4, made in China, in white and bright red. The collection’s other four racquets have graphite frames and come in 3U or 4U. Like the Nanoray 9000LD, its product page carries only Yonex’s general Nanoray series text, with no model description, and Yonex documents no standard Nanoray 7000.

Exclusive II and the 7000LD’s listing

Yonex announced Lin Dan Exclusive II on October 15, 2015, after his first Yonex Open Japan title in nine years, won after he rejoined Yonex, and said the limited gear would be on sale worldwide in late November. The announcement named only a custom Voltric Z-Force II. The Exclusive II category on Yonex’s international site already listed five racquets in its first archived capture, on October 21, 2015, among them the 7000LD and the 9000LD. The 7000LD’s own page is archived from November 16, 2015 to December 3, 2016 with unchanged specifications. Yonex Japan’s Lin Dan page lists only the Z-Force II LD among racquets.

His collection, not his racquet

Yonex ties the 7000LD to Lin Dan only through its name and the Exclusive II collection. No Yonex report or equipment list shows him, or any other player, using it. His documented racquets in 2015 and 2016 were Voltric Z-Force II models, among them the Exclusive II Z-Force II LD, which Yonex’s report linked to his sixth All England title in March 2016; Yonex rates that frame extra stiff and lists it in 3U and 4U from its Japanese factory. Listings that call the 7000LD his racquet have no support in any Yonex source.

White and bright red

Yonex lists two colors for the 7000LD, white and bright red, the pair it also gives the Voltric 1LD and, in Japan, the Z-Force II LD. No other finish is documented. The collection’s other Nanoray, the 9000LD, is a different racquet: a graphite frame, flexible, 4U, in navy blue and white. Resale listings also carry a “Nanoray 7000i”, and Chinese fan databases list a plain Nanoray 7000; no page for either is archived from Yonex’s international site, and no Yonex source connects them to the 7000LD.

Listed into 2017

The Exclusive II category still listed the 7000LD, with the other four racquets, on January 13, 2017. By May 12, 2017 it held only three string products. Yonex published no production end and no quantity beyond calling the collection limited, so 2017 is the last year the 7000LD is documented on sale new. Yonex’s pages give no price for it. No verified sales are recorded yet.

Mix-ups more than fakes

No counterfeit of the 7000LD is documented. The practical risk is identity: the Lin Dan name covers five Exclusive II racquets and the later LD Voltrics, and resale titles use “Nanoray 7000 LD”, “Nanoray 7000 Lin Dan” and the separate “7000i” loosely. Because Yonex’s page gives no model description, copied product text proves nothing. The item code, the weight label, the flex rating and the frame material carry the identification, and the checklist below sets them out.

The odd one out

Nothing on Yonex’s pages carries the 7000LD forward. Yonex’s next Lin Dan racquets were Voltrics: by November 2016 its Voltric list showed the Voltric LD Force and the LD3, LD9, LD100 and LD200. The 7000LD and 9000LD are the only Nanorays in Yonex’s 2015 Lin Dan collections; the first collection, in May 2015, had three Voltric racquets. For a collector the 7000LD is the Exclusive II piece furthest from the frames Lin Dan played, a documented Yonex edition but not a racquet he is known to have used.

Authentication

Check the item code NR7000LD, the 2U weight label (average 93 g) with grip 4, the medium flex rating and the Made in China mark. Yonex lists an aluminum frame (“Aluminium” on its page), a shaft of graphite, NANOMESH and carbon nanotube, and the colors white and bright red. A 4U, flexible LD Nanoray in navy blue and white is the Nanoray 9000LD. A 3U, China-made Lin Dan frame is the Voltric 1LD, a 4U, Taiwan-made one the Voltric 7LD, and a Japan-made one a Z-Force II LD. A frame without the LD name or the NR7000LD code, a “7000i” included, is not this edition. Yonex recommends 16–20 lb. Yonex’s general counterfeit guidance centers on its hologram sticker.

Outlook

Treat the 7000LD as an Exclusive II collection piece on an aluminum 2U frame, not as Lin Dan’s racquet. Confirm the NR7000LD code, the 2U label and the Made in China mark in photographs, and be careful with “7000” titles, which also cover a 7000i that Yonex’s international site did not list. Ask for daylight photographs of the frame, the cone and the weight label, and look for dents, bends, cracks and repainting.
