Nanospeed 6600: the Japan-made Nanospeed with an elastomer frame and FX Plus

The upper Japan-made Nanospeed

The Nanospeed 6600 (item code NS6600) was the dearest of the Japan-made fullerene Nanospeeds that sat below the 7700, 8000 and 9900 on Yonex Japan’s list. Its page announced it for sale in September 2010 in Shine Orange only, at ¥21,000 including tax (¥20,000 before tax), made in Japan. Yonex’s copy sold it on easy flight and a soft feel, thanks to FX Plus, which it said made the most of the shaft’s flex.

Elastomer, LSC and FX Plus

Yonex listed a carbon frame with elastomer and a high-modulus carbon shaft with fullerene and a built-in T-joint. Its technology list names fullerene, LSC system, FX Plus, the new built-in T-joint, Isometric, Solid Feel Core and an aero shape, with a 10 mm Long mark. It came only in 3U (grip sizes 5 and 6). Yonex recommended 17–22 lb, with NBG98 for hard hitters and CBG100 for control players. Yonex’s 2011 digital catalog rates the 6600 Flexible and gave no balance word; its 2012 spec chart plots the balance marker well toward the head-light side, at about the level of the 3000’s.

Rated for intermediates

No Yonex page, report or release names a player with the Nanospeed 6600. Yonex Japan’s skill grid marked it ◎ for intermediate players and ○ for advanced players and beginners in its first grid, the only one of the 6600, 3000, 2000 and 1000 with a mark for advanced players.

One color, three siblings

Shine Orange is the only design Yonex documents. The Nanospeed 6000 (2005) is a different racquet with an earlier code, and the 7700 is the older Nanospeed with its own dampers. Below the 6600 Yonex Japan listed the 5500 (2011 only, with fullerene in frame and shaft), the 3000 in 4U, then the 2000 and 1000 as plain-carbon 3U frames for beginners; each has its own page.

About two years on the list

The 6600 shows on Yonex Japan’s racquet list in October 2010, was still listed in November 2012, and had left it by May 2013. Yonex Japan’s old-model index files it under the 2012 production ends. Listings call it Nanospeed 6600, NS6600, NS-6600 or ナノスピード6600. Yonex’s 2011 digital catalog on its international site also lists it, marked made in Japan. No verified sales are recorded yet.

Mix-ups, not copies

No counterfeit of the Nanospeed 6600 is documented. Mix-ups with the NS6000, which differs by one digit, and the NS7000 are likelier; the 6600 is a 3U frame in Shine Orange with a Japan marking. A frame in another color, or without the NS6600 code, belongs to another model.

Gone with the 2012 clean-out

The 6600 carried the LSC system of the earlier 6000 and 7700 onto the 2010–12 Japan list and left with the clean-out of 2012–13. Yonex named no successor; the Nanospeed 9900 and 1000 were the only Nanospeed links left on its racquet list in late 2013.

Authentication

Check the item code NS6600 on the frame, not NS6000 or NS7000. Yonex Japan documents a single design, Shine Orange, in 3U only (grip sizes 5 and 6), made in Japan. The page lists a carbon frame with elastomer, a high-modulus carbon shaft with fullerene, LSC system, FX Plus and a built-in T-joint, plus a 10 mm Long mark. Yonex recommends 17–22 lb. The matching grommet set was AC416NSA, listed as Taiwan-made, and the page marks the frame as Japan Badminton Association approved.

Outlook

The Nanospeed 6600 suits a collector of Yonex Japan’s soft-feel Nanospeeds who wants the model that followed the 6000 and 7700, or who is filling the 2010–12 Japan row from top to bottom. Look for the NS6600 code, 3U and the Shine Orange finish. Check the frame closely for cracks and keep within Yonex’s 17–22 lb.
