Nanospeed 3000: the 4U, head-light Nanospeed Yonex Japan sold for club players

A light Nanospeed for club players

Yonex Japan put the Nanospeed 3000 (item code NS3000) on sale on 11 February 2010 and aimed it at beginner and intermediate players (初中級者). Its release tied the racquet to rally-point scoring: faster rallies had made quick racquet work, receives and clears more important, and players were asking for lighter racquets. It was made in Japan, 674 mm long, and listed at ¥16,800 including tax (¥16,000 before tax).

Weight moved into the grip

Yonex listed a carbon frame plus a high-strength carbon frame, and a high-modulus carbon shaft with fullerene and a built-in T-joint. Its release says fullerene let Yonex thin the shaft walls and that the weight saved was moved toward the grip, giving a head-light balance without changing the racquet’s total weight. The page lists fullerene, built-in T-joint, Isometric, Solid Feel Core and an aero shape, plus a 10 mm Long mark. It came only in 4U (grip sizes 5 and 6); Yonex recommends 17–22 lb, with NBG98 for hard hitters and BG66M for control players. Yonex gave no flex rating.

No named user

No Yonex page, release or report names a player with the Nanospeed 3000. Yonex Japan’s skill grid marked it ◎ for intermediate players, with ○ for beginners in the second grid and no mark for advanced players, the same audience its release named.

Two designs, one code

The 2010 racquet came in White/Pink (color 062) and White/Lime (656). A page tagged as new and scheduled for late February 2012 shows a second design, Black/Pink and Red/Silver, under the same item code and price; Yonex Japan’s old-model page keeps only that second design. On Yonex Japan’s 2012 spec chart the 3000 is the only 4U Nanospeed, with the 6600, 2000 and 1000 all 3U. It is not the Nanospeed 4500 of 2008, which has a separate code and is 3U.

Listed until late 2012

The 3000 was on Yonex Japan’s racquet list in October 2010 and still in November 2012; the list of May 2013 no longer carried it. Yonex Japan’s old-model index files it under the 2012 production ends, beside the NS6600 and NS2000. Its own page stayed online into 2013, which does not show continued sale. Listings call it Nanospeed 3000, NS3000, NS-3000 or ナノスピード3000. No Yonex source shows it sold outside Japan. No verified sales are recorded yet.

Mix-ups, not copies

No counterfeit of the Nanospeed 3000 is documented. The likelier errors are code mix-ups: the 4500 (Blue, 3U), the 6600 (Shine Orange, 3U) and the 2000 (Silver, 3U) are different racquets, and the 3000 is the 4U one. A listing in a color other than the four documented designs deserves a check against the code.

Gone with the 2012 clean-out

Yonex Japan’s 2012 spec chart plots the 3000 on the head-light side of the Nanospeed row, level with the 6600. Yonex named no successor, and the 3000 left the list with the 6600 and 2000 in the clean-out of 2012–13.

Authentication

Check the item code NS3000 on the frame and shaft, and the size: Yonex Japan documents only 4U (grip sizes 5 and 6), 674 mm long, made in Japan. The 2010 designs are White/Pink (color 062) and White/Lime (656); the 2012 designs are Black/Pink and Red/Silver. A Silver/Red or Silver/Blue frame is the NS2000, an orange one the NS6600, a Blue 3U frame the 4500. Yonex lists a carbon frame with a high-strength carbon frame and a fullerene shaft; recommended tension is 17–22 lb. The matching grommet set was AC416NSA.

Outlook

The Nanospeed 3000 suits a collector who wants the light, grip-weighted end of Yonex Japan’s 2010–12 Nanospeed row. Look for a clear NS3000 code, a 4U size mark and one of the four documented designs. As with any frame of this age, inspect the head and the shaft joint for cracks and the grommets for wear, and keep within Yonex’s 17–22 lb.
