ArcSaber 11 Taufik Hidayat: Dove Gray and gold for his farewell season
Chosen for his last matches
Yonex’s page for the edition says Taufik Hidayat chose the ArcSaber 11 “for its greater control and speed to add that extra dimension to his remaining matches before he retires in June 2013.” For his own version he picked Dove Gray because, Yonex wrote, it matched his signature and his motto, “Winning Is An Attitude,” printed in shining gold. Yonex announced the ArcSaber 11 Taufik Hidayat Limited Edition for the Sudirman Cup in May 2013 and pointed fans to his last tournament, the Indonesia Open in his home country that June, closing with “Don’t miss the legendary Taufik’s last dance.” His last match there was a first-round loss on June 12.
The ArcSaber 11 in gray
Underneath, it is the ArcSaber 11 that Yonex had launched that February as the ArcSaber 10’s successor; Yonex Japan had already built that launch around Taufik, as the standard model’s page tells. Yonex’s edition page noted that the racquet, “launched a few months earlier,” had proved popular around the world. It lists the same frame of high-modulus graphite, Neo CS Carbon Nanotube and Sonic Metal and the same high-modulus graphite and Ultra PEF shaft, with a stiff flex, made in Japan. Yonex recommends 19–24 lb for the 3U and 20–25 lb for the 2U. The item code is ARC11TH, and Yonex’s global product page quoted Taufik: “I feel more power, and even more accurate control.”
His season, not his titles
What Yonex documents is a choice for his final weeks on tour. No Yonex report names the gray edition in a match. His 2004 Olympic gold and 2005 world title came before the ArcSaber line existed, so no title of his belongs to this frame. The ArcSaber 11’s big wins came after he retired and went to other players, among them Viktor Axelsen and the pair Mathias Boe and Carsten Mogensen, on the standard model; its page covers them. The gold motto was his own slogan before the racquet: “Winning is an Attitude” was the theme when he and Yonex launched the Yonex Taufik Hidayat Line of apparel in Jakarta in June 2009.
One of several Taufik frames
It is one of several Yonex frames carrying his name, each with its own page. Yonex Japan’s red ArcSaber Z-Slash Taufik Hidayat model of July 2010 came during his career. After his retirement came a red ArcSaber 10 bearing his name, on sale by October 2015 and sold by dealers as a Legend Vision edition; Yonex Far East’s site listed an “ARCSABER 10 Taufik” in 2016, and whether its ARC10THL code and the dealers’ ARC10LTH name one racquet is not settled.
Sold abroad, briefly
Yonex’s global site listed the edition as the ArcSaber 11 Taufik Hidayat from June 2013, and archived captures show the page live until January 2015. Yonex Japan’s ArcSaber 11 pages show only the standard red model, and Yonex Far East’s site has no captured page for the edition. It reached buyers quickly: a blogger who had one in hand by May 24, 2013 called it a fitting end to a legend’s career. Yonex gave no production figure. Its interest for collectors is as the Yonex-documented racquet of his farewell season. No verified sales are recorded yet.
Gray is not enough
Two other ArcSaber 11s are easy to confuse with it. The standard 2013 frame is red, later listed as Metallic Red, and the ArcSaber 11 Pro of 2022 is a new frame in Grayish Pearl. A gray ArcSaber 11 is therefore not automatically the Taufik edition: the printed signature, the gold motto and the ARC11TH code are what identify it. Counterfeit standard ArcSaber 11s are documented, as the standard model’s page describes; no counterfeit of the Taufik edition itself is documented.
A farewell edition
The edition closes the playing chapter of Taufik’s Yonex story. It followed the Z-Slash model of his career and came before the red ArcSaber 10 that carried his name after retirement. It also sits early in the ArcSaber 11’s long run, which ended when the ArcSaber 11 Pro replaced it in 2022. Yonex listed it for about a year and a half on its global site and published no production count.
Yonex’s item code is ARC11TH, and Yonex lists it as made in Japan. The frame is Dove Gray, with Taufik’s signature and the motto “Winning Is An Attitude” printed in gold. Yonex listed 3U (85–89.9 g, average 88 g) and 2U (90–94.9 g, average 93 g), grips 4 and 5, and a stiff flex. A red or Metallic Red frame is the standard ArcSaber 11, and a Grayish Pearl frame is the 2022 ArcSaber 11 Pro, a different racquet. Yonex’s own checks: the production code on the cap above the handle is laser-engraved, and the hologram sticker resists peeling.
For a Taufik collection, this is the Yonex-documented edition of his final season, on the frame he chose for his last matches. Ask for clear photographs of the signature, the gold motto, the Made in Japan marking and the cone code, and treat any claim that a particular frame was his match racquet as unproven without documentation.
