ArcSaber 8 PW: the black-and-purple 4U ArcSaber Yonex added in 2018
A late addition to the ArcSaber list
The ArcSaber 8 PW was the last new model on Yonex’s international ArcSaber list before the 2020 rebuild of its website: a 4U, medium-flex frame in Black/Purple with high-modulus graphite in both frame and shaft. It joined that list in spring 2018, beside the ArcSaber 11, 6 FL, FD and Lite, and the list did not change again until mid-2020.
H.M. Graphite and NANOAIR SPRING
Yonex’s international site listed the 8 PW between February and April 2018; its product page was online by 31 March 2018, and no launch date is documented, so 2018 is the earliest Yonex-documented year. The page gave item code ARC8PW, Flex Medium, an H.M. Graphite frame with NANOAIR SPRING, an H.M. Graphite shaft, 4U (Ave. 83 g) in G4 and G5, and Yonex recommending 19–26 lb, a wider range than the 19–24 lb of the 6 FL and Lite. The international page gives no country of manufacture; Yonex China’s page for the model names Taiwan (中国台湾) as the origin and describes the hit feel as hard, against the international page’s Medium.
No named player
No Yonex source names a player for the ArcSaber 8 PW.
One design
Yonex documents one color, Black/Purple. The ArcSaber 8 DX (2010), the ArcSaber 10 Pearl White reissue and the Carbonex 8 DX are different racquets despite the shared numbers and letters; each has its own page or section.
Listed from 2018 to 2020
The 8 PW stayed on Yonex’s international ArcSaber list until the old yonex.com was replaced in mid-2020; the last version of that list, in June 2020, still showed it, and the rebuilt global site never did. Yonex China’s ArcSaber list carried it from at least January 2019 to June 2021, but that list did not remove old models. No verified sales are recorded yet.
Fakes and mix-ups
No counterfeit of this model is documented. The name invites confusion with the ArcSaber 8 DX and with ArcSaber 10 frames sold as “PW” for Pearl White.
A short-lived ArcSaber
The 8 PW was on Yonex’s international list for about two years. Yonex documents less about it than about its list-mates: no balance and no description of its own. Its Medium flex and H.M. Graphite shaft place it between the soft 6 FL and the stiff FD.
Check for the ARCSABER 8 PW name print and a 4U marking: Yonex offered no other weight class. The only Yonex design is Black/Purple. Yonex documents an H.M. Graphite frame with NANOAIR SPRING, an H.M. Graphite shaft and Medium flex. Yonex China’s page names Taiwan as the origin, so check the frame’s own marking. A Japan-made copper-orange frame is the ArcSaber 8 DX; a white frame sold as “PW” is an ArcSaber 10 Pearl White.
A buyer should confirm the 8 PW name print, the 4U class and the Black/Purple design, and not mistake it for the ArcSaber 8 DX or an ArcSaber 10 Pearl White. Yonex documents no balance for it, so a seller’s spec sheet is not Yonex’s.
