ArcSaber FD: the stiff 5U ArcSaber Yonex built with NANOMETRIC β for swing speed
Light frame, stiff shaft
The ArcSaber FD paired a 5U weight class with a Stiff shaft, where the ArcSaber Lite and 6 FL that joined Yonex’s list with it in 2015 were 4U and softer. Yonex’s pitch was speed: “Superior manoeuvrability from NANOMETRIC β accelerates the swing speed for faster shots.” By 2021 Yonex’s global site called it “Yonex’s lightest model made with NANOMETRIC.”
H.M. Graphite with NANOMETRIC β
Yonex’s international site added the FD to its ArcSaber list in early February 2015, with the Lite and 6 FL; no launch date is documented, so 2015 is the earliest Yonex-documented year. The product page gave item code ARC-FD, Flex Stiff, an H.M. Graphite frame with NANOAIR SPRING and NANOMETRIC β, a graphite shaft with NANOMETRIC β, 5U (Ave. 78 g) in G4 and G5, Yonex recommending 19–24 lb, and “Made in Taiwan.” Yonex’s global site in 2021 gave the same flex, 10 mm longer than standard, in G4 only.
No named player
No Yonex source names a player for the ArcSaber FD.
Shine Silver, then White/Red
Yonex’s 2015 page and Yonex Far East’s 2016–2017 pages named Shine Silver; Yonex’s global site named White/Red in 2021. The item code stayed ARC-FD (ARCFD in Yonex USA’s 2021 stringing list). Its list-mates were the 4U ArcSaber Lite and ArcSaber 6 FL, both softer, the stiff 3U ArcSaber 4DX, and the F-weight ArcSaber FB, which is lighter still; each has its own page.
The last of the small ArcSabers
The FD outlasted the Lite and 6 FL on Yonex’s lists. The rebuilt global site listed it “In stock” from September 2020 to September 2021, beside the ArcSaber 11; by January 2022 the list held only the new ArcSaber 11 Pro, Tour and Play, so 2021 is the last year a pruning Yonex list documents it on sale. Yonex China’s list carried it to at least June 2021. No verified sales are recorded yet.
Fakes and mix-ups
No counterfeit of this model is documented. The FD name is easy to confuse with the ArcSaber FB, a different, lighter F-weight frame.
A speed frame in the ArcSaber line
The FD stands apart from its 2015 list-mates for its stiff shaft and NANOMETRIC β. For a player it is a fast, light frame that suits a quick swing; for a collector it is the longest-listed of the three, and the last small ArcSaber before the ArcSaber 11 Pro, Tour and Play line.
Check for the ARCSABER FD name print and a 5U marking: Yonex offered no other weight class. Yonex lists it as made in Taiwan, so look for a Taiwan marking. Yonex’s designs were Shine Silver (2015–2017) and White/Red (listed by 2018 and again in 2021). Yonex documents an H.M. Graphite frame with NANOAIR SPRING and NANOMETRIC β and a Stiff shaft. An F-weight frame is the ArcSaber FB.
A buyer should confirm the FD name print, the 5U class, the Taiwan marking and one of Yonex’s two designs. Yonex documents no balance for it. Check the frame and shaft for cracks and repairs, and keep to Yonex’s recommended 19–24 lb when restringing.
