Carbonex 10MS: the Japan-made Muscle Carbonex on Yonex’s 2006 export list

Four Carbonex models, two with Muscle

In November 2006 Yonex’s international site listed four Carbonex racquets: the Carbonex-30MS, 21, 20 and, last, the Carbonex-10MS. Two of them carried the Muscle Power badge, the 30MS and the 10MS. By July 2007 the same list showed the 30MS as the Carbonex 30 Muscle, which has its own page, alongside the 21 and 20, and the 10MS was gone.

Stiff, graphite on high-modulus graphite

Yonex’s block reads Flex: Stiff; Frame: Graphite; Shaft: H.M. Graphite; 2U (90–94.9 g) in grips G3, G4 and G5; Made in Japan, with badges for the built-in T-joint and the Muscle Power frame. Yonex gives no balance, length, stringing advice, color or price for it. On the same list the Carbonex-20 has a graphite frame and shaft in 3U and 2U, and the 30MS high-modulus graphite with Ultimum Ti in 3U and 2U.

No player on record

No Yonex source names a player using the Carbonex 10MS.

The 10MS and the 10 Tour

Yonex’s 2000 Asian catalog gave the Carbonex-10 Tour the same printed composition and flex, a graphite frame on a high-modulus graphite shaft rated Stiff, with the Muscle Power Frame and built-in T-joint, in 2U with grips G2 to G5. No Yonex source says whether the 10MS is the 10 Tour renamed, and the catalog photographs the 10 Tour in black with purple trim while no image or color of the 10MS is documented. The 1996 Carbonex 10 shares only the number; both have their own pages.

Listed in 2006, named in China to 2009

2006 is the only year Yonex’s international list shows the 10MS, and Yonex’s 2007 export catalog lists the Carbonex 30 Muscle, 21 and 8600Ti without it. Yonex China’s online model picker still named a CAB-10MS in its Carbonex group, beside the CAB-30MS and CAB-20, in December 2007 and as late as May 2009; that list kept models long after other Yonex lists dropped them, so it shows the item code, not continued production. No Yonex Japan or Yonex USA listing is documented. No verified sales are recorded yet.

Reading the shaft

No counterfeit of the Carbonex 10MS is documented. The identity check is the name: the 10 Tour shares its printed specification and the 1996 Carbonex 10 its number, so the full model name on the frame decides which racquet it is. Yonex documents 2U only, and Japan as the country of manufacture.

A late Muscle Carbonex

On Yonex’s 2006 international list the 10MS was the Muscle Carbonex without Ultimum Ti, which the 30MS added to frame and shaft. Yonex also fitted the Muscle Power Frame to the Carbonex 23 of 2000 and the Carbonex 20 Muscle of 2002, each with its own page. Its whole Yonex record is one export listing and an item code in Yonex China’s model picker.

Authentication

Yonex’s 2006 international list documents the Carbonex 10MS as Stiff, with a graphite frame and a high-modulus graphite shaft, 2U (90–94.9 g) in grips G3–G5, made in Japan, with the built-in T-joint and Muscle Power frame badges. A 3U frame is not a documented 10MS. Yonex documents no color, item-code print or stringing advice for it. Check that the frame reads 10MS: the purple-trimmed Carbonex 10 Tour of 2000 shares the printed specification, and the 1996 Carbonex 10 shares the number. On a frame about 20 years old, check the throat, the hoop and the grommets for cracks.

Outlook

The Carbonex 10MS is a short-lived export Carbonex with a thin Yonex record: one 2006 international listing and Yonex China’s item code. Confirm the full name and the 2U weight before assuming a match, and keep it apart from the 10 Tour, which no Yonex source ties to it. Any color, player or launch-date claim needs a source beyond the listing.
