Carbonex 7 Long: the softest Long Carbonex on Yonex’s 1999 spec chart

One column on a spec chart

The Carbonex 7 Long is known from a single Yonex document: a spec chart that the collector who scanned it dates to 1999. Its Carbonex section has ten columns, and the seventh is headed “7 LONG,” between the Carbonex 8 and the 8300. No Yonex catalog page, product page, photograph, item code or price for it is documented.

What the chart marks

The chart rates flex on five rows from Stiff to Flexible, and power and control on five rows from Excellent to Medium, naming only the end rows. The 7 Long’s flex mark is on the fourth row, one above Flexible: the only Carbonex on that row, softer than the 9 Tour, 8 and 8300 and stiffer than the 8200 and 8000. Its power and control marks sit on the middle rows. Because the chart names no step between its ends, Yonex documents no flex word for it, and no material, weight, length, balance or country of manufacture.

No player on record

No Yonex source names a player using the Carbonex 7 Long.

The other Long models

No color or edition is documented. The same chart lists two other Long Carbonex models, the 20 Long and the 15 Long, both marked stiffer, and an Isometric 250 Long; the Carbonex 20 Long, Carbonex 15 Long and Isometric 250 Long have their own pages. No plain Carbonex 7 appears in Yonex’s Asian catalogs of 1996 and 2000, and no Yonex source says what “Long” adds to this frame. The Carbonex 8, its neighbor on the chart, has its own page.

Documented in 1999 only

The 7 Long is not on the Carbonex spreads of Yonex’s 1996 Asian catalog, on Yonex USA’s Carbonex page of 1999, or on the Carbonex pages of the 2000 Asian catalog, and no Yonex Japan listing is documented. That leaves 1999 as its first and last documented year. No verified sales are recorded yet.

Only the name to go on

No counterfeit of the Carbonex 7 Long is documented. With no Yonex photograph or specification text, the printed name “Carbonex 7 Long” is the only documented identifier; a Carbonex 8, a Carbonex 20 Long or a frame marked only “Carbonex 7” is not shown by any Yonex source to be this model.

The soft end of the Long range

On the 1999 chart the 7 Long is the most flexible Long Carbonex, two rows softer than the 15 Long and three below the 20 Long; among the chart’s Isometric models the 85 VF Long shares its flex row. Everything else about it is undocumented.

Authentication

Yonex documents no specification text for the Carbonex 7 Long: its only record is a 1999 spec-chart column that places its flex one row above Flexible and its power and control in the middle. Yonex gives no weight class, material, color, item code or country of manufacture, so any of these on a listing is the seller’s claim, not Yonex’s. Match the full printed name “Carbonex 7 Long”; a Carbonex 8 or 20 Long is a different model. On a frame about 25 years old, check the throat, the hoop and the grommets for cracks.

Outlook

The Carbonex 7 Long has one of the thinnest Yonex records of any Carbonex: a single chart column. Check that the full name is printed on the frame, photograph its markings, and treat any weight, material, launch-year or player claim as unsupported unless a Yonex source turns up.
