Isometric Pro 700 Long: Yonex Japan’s turquoise all-carbon Long of 2000, in 3U and 2U
A Pro-named Isometric, first documented in 2000
The Isometric Pro 700 Long, item ISOP700, is known from one Yonex Japan product page in its “Products ’00” range and from the old-model lists that followed. It was an all-carbon Long frame in turquoise, offered in two weights, 3U and 2U. The page prints no launch date and no new tag, and Yonex Japan’s badminton pages of April 1999 tag only the Ti10 as new and do not list this one, so 2000 is its first documented year. It is the only Isometric with “Pro” in its name on Yonex Japan’s lists of the period.
All-carbon, with a supple shaft
Yonex Japan’s page lists an all-carbon frame and an all-carbon shaft, sold as a frame with a full racquet case. Its copy runs to two lines: a supple shaft (しなやかシャフト) for powerful strokes, and a widened sweet spot with 20% more repulsion, without saying compared with what. Sizes are 3U in grips 4 and 5, and 2U in grips 3, 4 and 5. Yonex recommends 14–16 lb mains and 16–18 lb crosses for 3U, and 16–18 lb mains and 18–20 lb crosses for 2U, with BG65 Ti for hard hitters and BG68 Ti for control players. No balance, stiffness rating, length figure or country of manufacture is given.
No player on record
No player is documented using the Isometric Pro 700 Long, and Yonex Japan’s page names none. Yonex’s player ties in the Isometric line of the period run through other frames, such as the Swing Power 900 and the Ti Swing Power.
One turquoise design
Yonex Japan documented a single design, turquoise (color 161), and no edition. The Isometric 400 Long (ISO400L) carries the same color code and the same all-carbon build, but it is a separate model: 3U only, cheaper, and described as top-light, a word the Pro 700 Long’s page does not use. Yonex Japan’s 2000 Isometric list also held the Ti Swing Power, the 750 Muscle, the Swing Power 500 and the 250. Yonex’s 2000 Asian catalog charts several of these Isometrics but has no Pro 700 Long, and no export version is documented.
¥18,000 and the 2000 model year
Yonex Japan’s suggested retail price was ¥18,000 for the frame with a full racquet case: above the Swing Power 500 at ¥16,000 and the 400 Long at ¥15,000, below the 750 Muscle at ¥19,000 and the Ti Swing Power at ¥21,000. Its old-model index of 2002–08 filed the Pro 700 Long with the 2000 models, beside the Swing Power 500 and the 400 Long, and Yonex Japan kept its old-model page online into 2010. No verified sales are recorded yet.
Mix-ups rather than fakes
No counterfeit of the Isometric Pro 700 Long is documented. The likelier confusion is with the turquoise 400 Long, which shares its color code and build; the printed model name decides, and a 2U turquoise frame of this build cannot be a 400 Long. It is unrelated to the 1990s export Isometric Power 600 and Tour 800. How the name is printed on the frame is not documented.
The end of the plain carbon Isometrics
The Pro 700 Long left Yonex Japan’s range with the 2000 model year, together with the 400 Long and the Swing Power 500. The titanium-mesh Ti Swing Power and the 750 Muscle, with its Muscle Power Frame, outlasted it, and the all-carbon Long carried on for one more season in the navy Isometric 300 Long of 2001. Yonex never named a successor to the Pro 700 Long.
Yonex Japan’s specification for the Isometric Pro 700 Long: item code ISOP700; turquoise (161); all-carbon frame and all-carbon shaft; 3U in grip sizes 4 or 5, or 2U in grip sizes 3, 4 or 5; Long size; sold as a frame with a full racquet case. Yonex prints no balance, stiffness rating or country of manufacture for it. The Isometric 400 Long shares the turquoise and the build, so read the printed model name; a 400 Long was offered in 3U only. How the name and size appear on the frame is not documented. On a frame about 25 years old, check the joint, the grommets and the hoop for cracks.
The Pro 700 Long is a small, well-recorded piece of Yonex Japan’s 2000 range: item code, list price, color, two weights and stringing advice, but no balance, stiffness rating or player. Its start is the open question, since no Yonex source dates it before the 2000 range. Treat a Pro 700 Long in a color other than turquoise as undocumented rather than fake, and look for a clear model-name print and a dated purchase record.
