Nanoflare 170 Light: Yonex’s 2019 beginner Nanoflare, restyled twice before 2024
The beginner’s Nanoflare
When Yonex announced the Nanoflare 700 on January 15, 2019, it introduced a whole head-light series with it, and the 170 Light was the model at the bottom of the adult range. Yonex’s release said the 370 Speed was for advanced players chasing smash speed, the 270 Speed for intermediate to advanced players seeking longer clears, and the 170 Light “for beginning players who require the ultimate in lightness and maneuverability.” Yonex kept that line for the racquet’s whole life: its product page in 2024 still described it as for beginners looking for the ultimate in lightness and maneuverability. The 170 Light stayed in Yonex’s global store for more than five years, changing color twice along the way.
Plainer graphite, same 5U weight
Yonex’s launch sheet gives the 170 Light a graphite frame with Nanocell NEO and high-modulus graphite, a graphite shaft and a built-in T-joint, the same materials list as the Nanoflare Junior launched beside it. The 270 Speed and 370 Speed have high-modulus graphite frames and shafts, and only the 700 lists the M40X fiber of the Sonic Flare System. Yonex’s product pages still list the Sonic Flare System and the Aero Frame among the 170’s technologies, along with Isometric head shape, a super-slim shaft and the Control Support Cap. Yonex rates the shaft Hi-Flex, and Yonex Taiwan calls the balance head-light. The name suggests the lightest of the family, but on Yonex’s figures every 2019 adult Nanoflare came in 5U (average 78 g); the 170 was the only one sold in 5U alone, with G4 to G6 grips. Yonex recommends 19–26 lb. Its product pages from 2020 list the frame as 10 mm longer than standard; the 2019 page had no length row, and Yonex announced no change to the frame.

Three color pairs
Yonex sold the 170 Light in pairs of colors and changed them twice. The launch colors were Lime and Magenta, still listed in October 2020. By February 2021 Yonex’s page showed White/Red and White/Turquoise, which lasted into January 2022. By January 2023 the pair was Black/Orange and Black/Blue, the colors on the page until its last capture in June 2024. No Yonex announcement of either change has been found, and the listed specification otherwise stayed the same. In Japan, where no Yonex Japan product page for the model has been found, sporting-goods chains sold it under longer item codes such as NF-170LTH-188 and NF-170LTXG-188. The Nanoflare Junior is a separate racquet, with the same materials but a 4U frame and a G7 grip.
Five years in the store
Yonex’s global product page showed the 170 Light “In stock” in every capture from August 2020 to June 24, 2024, and the page now returns “not found.” Yonex published no discontinuation notice, so 2024 marks the last year it is documented on sale new rather than a production end. Yonex USA’s 2019 catalog priced the 270 Speed but did not show the 170 Light among its racquets, so no US launch price is documented. Verified sales so far are pre-owned frames from Asia resale, and the price panel above lists them.
Copies and mix-ups
No counterfeit specific to the 170 Light has been documented. Yonex’s current guidance gives one general test, the hologram sticker, which is hard to peel off a genuine frame. The likelier error is identity. The 270 Speed, 370 Speed and 700 share the family look, and the Nanoflare Junior shares the 170’s materials. The weight label and the model name on the shaft separate them; the callout lists the details.
An entry model with a long run
The 170 Light belongs to the first Nanoflare family, the head-light series Yonex launched around the 700 in 2019, and like the 700 it stayed on Yonex’s global store into mid-2024. Yonex’s item code is NF-170LT; Japanese chain-store packs carry longer codes beginning NF-170LTH or NF-170LTXG. Yonex lists one weight class only, 5U (average 78 g), with G4, G5 or G6 grips, so a 4U frame labeled 170 Light is a mismatch (the 4U Nanoflare Junior shares its materials). Yonex rates the shaft Hi-Flex and lists a graphite frame with Nanocell NEO and high-modulus graphite and a graphite shaft. Documented colors are Lime and Magenta (2019–2020), White/Red and White/Turquoise (2021–2022), and Black/Orange and Black/Blue (2023–2024). Yonex prints no country of manufacture for it. Yonex’s own test is the hologram sticker, which resists peeling on a genuine frame.
