Nanoflare 270 Speed: Yonex’s 2019 Nanoflare for longer clears, sold in three colors
The clear-distance Nanoflare
Yonex announced the Nanoflare 270 Speed on January 15, 2019, as one of four models launched alongside the Nanoflare 700 in a new head-light series. The 370 Speed was for advanced players who wanted faster smashes, the 170 Light for beginners, and the 270 Speed, in Yonex’s words, for “intermediate to advanced players seeking greater clears.” From 2020 Yonex’s product page put it more simply: for intermediate players looking for greater distance on clears. It was not the family’s entry model: Yonex aimed the 170 Light at beginners. The 270 Speed stayed in Yonex’s global store for more than five years.
Super HMG without the M40X
The 700 launched Yonex’s Sonic Flare System: Super HMG graphite at the top of the frame and Toray’s M40X fiber along the bottom. The 270 Speed kept one half of that recipe. Yonex lists its frame as high-modulus graphite with Nanocell NEO and Super HMG, with a high-modulus graphite shaft and a built-in T-joint, and no M40X. Its product pages list the Sonic Flare System and the Aero Frame among its technologies, with an Isometric head, a super-slim shaft and the Control Support Cap. Yonex rates the flex medium, and Yonex Taiwan calls the balance head-light. It came in 5U (average 78 g) and 4U (average 83 g), and Yonex lists the frame as 10 mm longer than standard. Yonex recommends 19–26 lb in 5U and 20–27 lb in 4U, with BG66 Ultimax for control players and Aerosonic for hard hitters.
Players
No professional player is documented using the Nanoflare 270 Speed.
Red, then navy, then purple
The 270 Speed launched in Red, the only color in Yonex’s 2019 release and on Yonex’s product pages through August 2020. By August 2021 the page showed Navy/Orange, and by May 2022 Purple, which remained the color until the page’s last capture in June 2024. No Yonex announcement of either change has been found, and the listed specification otherwise stayed the same. Yonex USA’s 2019 catalog offered one version, item NF270R, a red 4U frame with a G5 grip, at a $125 launch price. The 370 Speed launched in yellow, and the 700 shared the 270’s launch red.
Five years in the store
Yonex’s global product page showed the 270 Speed “In stock” in every capture from August 2020 to June 24, 2024, and the page now returns “not found.” Yonex published no discontinuation notice, so 2024 is the last year it is documented on sale new rather than a production end. Verified sales so far are pre-owned frames from Asia resale, and the price panel above lists them.
Copies and mix-ups
No counterfeit specific to the 270 Speed has been documented. Yonex’s current guidance gives one general test, the hologram sticker, which is hard to peel off a genuine frame. The likelier error is identity. A red 270 Speed and a red Nanoflare 700 share the family look, but the 700 is marked Made in Japan, and Yonex prints no country of manufacture for the 270. The model name on the shaft and the callout’s details separate the four 2019 models.
The middle of the first family
The 270 Speed sits in the middle of the first Nanoflare family, the head-light series Yonex launched around the 700 in 2019, and like the 700 it stayed on Yonex’s global store into mid-2024. Its interest for a collector is that place in the lineup and its three dated colors, which show when a frame was sold. The Nanoflare 700 page tells the series’ launch story.
Yonex’s item code is NF-270SP; Yonex USA’s 2019 catalog lists the red 4U as NF270R. Yonex rates the flex medium and lists 5U (average 78 g) and 4U (average 83 g), with G4 or G5 grips on its product pages. The frame is high-modulus graphite with Nanocell NEO and Super HMG, with a high-modulus graphite shaft, and Yonex lists it as 10 mm longer than standard. Documented colors are Red (2019–2020), Navy/Orange (2021) and Purple (2022–2024). Yonex prints no country of manufacture for it, so a Made in Japan marking points to a Nanoflare 700. Yonex’s own test is the hologram sticker, which resists peeling on a genuine frame.
The Nanoflare 270 Speed is a common intermediate racquet from Yonex’s first Nanoflare family, documented on sale new from 2019 to 2024. Its interest is its place between the 170 Light and the 370 Speed and its three colors, which date a frame to its sales period. Buy on condition: ask for photographs of the model name, the item code and the weight label, check the head and the frame-shaft joint for cracks or repainting, and confirm the color is one Yonex sold.
