Nanoflare 200: Yonex Japan’s Japan-made entry Nanoflare of 2019–2022
Japan’s entry Nanoflare, 2019–2022
The Nanoflare 200 (item code NF-200) was the entry model of Yonex Japan’s Nanoflare line from December 2019 to 2022, a Japan-made racquet that Yonex listed only in Japan. Yonex summed it up in one line: a soft feel and a head-light design that send the shuttle with little effort, an “entry model racquet.” Its level chart gave it the top mark (◎) for beginners, men and women alike, a second mark (○) for intermediates and none for advanced players. It went on sale in early December 2019 at ¥12,000 before tax.
M40X in a 4U beginner frame
Yonex Japan listed the frame as carbon, Toray’s M40X and high-elastic carbon, with a high-elastic carbon shaft and a built-in T-joint. The page credited the series’ Sonic Flare System, M40X and the Isometric head shape, along with an aero frame, a Solid Feel Core, a Super Slim shaft, a Control Support Cap and a shock-absorbing system. Yonex offered one size, 4U (average 83 g) with grips 5 and 6, in a frame 10 mm longer than standard, and recommended 17–22 lb. It gave no flex rating, only the soft feel.
No named player
No Yonex source names a player using the Nanoflare 200. Yonex Japan presented it as a racquet for players starting out, and its product pages cite no professional user.
Two designs and the Japan-line neighbors
Yonex Japan launched the 200 in Black/White, White/Light Blue and Black/Magenta. In late December 2021 it issued a new design under the same item code, in Sapphire Blue, Magenta and White/Lavender, with the same materials, size and price; the suggested string for control players changed from BG68 Titanium to Skyarc. Just before the 200 went on sale, Yonex Japan’s Nanoflare list ran 800, 700, 200 and Junior. The Nanoflare 600 followed in late December 2019 and the Nanoflare 400 in December 2020; the 400 matches the 200’s Japan origin, 4U size and length. The export Nanoflare 170 Light and 270 Speed of 2019 are different racquets. The Nanoflare 400 and 600 have their own pages.
Off Yonex Japan’s list by 2023
Yonex documented the 200 only in Japan; Yonex’s global site did not list it. Its price held through its run: ¥12,000 before tax at launch, printed as ¥13,200 including tax from 2021. Yonex marked it as passing the Japanese national association’s equipment test, so it could be used in sanctioned play in Japan. No production-end notice is documented. The 200 was last listed on Yonex Japan’s Nanoflare list in 2022, still there at the end of October, and was gone by February 2023, when the Nanoflare 300 appeared there as a new product. No verified sales are recorded yet.
Mix-ups, not fakes
No counterfeit of the Nanoflare 200 is documented. The likelier confusion is with its Japan-line neighbors. The Nanoflare 300 of 2023 has the same level marks, Japan origin, 4U size and 10 mm length, but a high-strength carbon frame and a plain carbon shaft; the Nanoflare 400 matches the origin, size and length too. The item code, one of Yonex’s six colors for it and the Made in Japan origin identify a 200; the callout lists the details.
The entry Nanoflare before the 300
The 200 is a discontinued, mass-produced entry racquet with no documented player, edition or production-end notice. Its interest is as the beginner end of Yonex Japan’s Japan-made Nanoflares before the 300: a head-light 4U frame with the series’ M40X fiber and Sonic Flare System. Its colors roughly date a frame: Black/White, White/Light Blue and Black/Magenta are the 2019 set, and Sapphire Blue, plain Magenta and White/Lavender the late-2021 design. The Nanoflare 300 has its own page.
Yonex’s item code is NF-200. Check for a Made in Japan origin, a 4U label (average 83 g, grip 5 or 6) and a frame 10 mm longer than standard. Launch colors were Black/White, White/Light Blue and Black/Magenta; the late-2021 design came in Sapphire Blue, Magenta and White/Lavender. Yonex lists carbon, M40X and high-elastic carbon in the frame, a high-elastic carbon shaft and a built-in T-joint. Yonex Japan’s dedicated grommet set for it is AC416NFD (the 400’s is AC416NFA, the 300’s AC416NFF), and its case is the BC-F5. A frame coded NF-300 or NF-400 is a different model.
The 200 is a recent mass-market frame, so most examples on offer are used. Yonex recommended 17–22 lb and suggested BG65 Titanium for hard hitters, with BG68 Titanium and later Skyarc for control players. For a used frame, confirm the NF-200 code, the Made in Japan marking and the 4U label, and ask for daylight photographs of the shaft markings and the head. Yonex listed the 200 only in Japan, so a “Japanese version” label on an overseas listing describes every genuine one.
