Voltric 55: the Japan-made, super-slim-shaft Voltric of Yonex UK’s 2015 range
A Japan-made Voltric for the UK range
The Voltric 55 (item VT55) is a white, Japan-made Voltric that Yonex UK sold in 2015 and early 2016. Yonex described it in one line: “Super Slim shaft and Tri-Voltage System increases smashing power.” In Yonex UK’s 2015 brochure it was one of five Japan-made Voltrics, with the Z-Force II, the 80 and 70 E-tune and the i-Force, and it came in a medium flex and a single 3U weight class. Yonex’s international Voltric list of 2015 did not carry it.
Super slim shaft and a tungsten frame
Yonex published no launch date. The 2015 brochure is its first Yonex record, and Yonex UK’s Voltric list shows it by June 2015, so 2015 is its first documented year. Yonex UK’s product page gives medium flex, a high-modulus graphite and tungsten frame, a high-modulus graphite shaft, 3U (85–89.9 g; average 88 g in the brochure) with grip G4, and Japan as the factory; the brochure adds a length 10 mm over standard and stringing advice of 19–24 lb. The page’s technology list names Isometric, the Built-in T-Joint and the Super Slim Long Shaft, which Yonex says “vastly reduces air resistance whilst providing maximum feel.” On the brochure’s style-of-play map its marker sits high in the head-heavy half, level with the Voltric Force.
No player on record
Yonex UK’s page and brochure name no player on the Voltric 55, and no player edition of it is documented. Yonex gave no player level for it either. Its stringing advice, 19–24 lb, matched the Voltric 7’s in the same brochure and sat below the Voltric Force’s 20–27 lb.
One white 3U frame
Yonex lists one design, White, under item VT55, and one weight class, 3U. Its near-namesakes are separate models. The three Voltric 50s of 2013–2018 (the 50, the 50 Neo and the 50 E-Tune) are lower-numbered frames under their own codes, and the Voltric 60 (2011–2014) is a flexible, Japan-made 4U frame. Each has its own page. In the 2015 brochure the 55 sat between the Japan-made i-Force and the Taiwan-made Voltric Force.
Listed by Yonex UK, 2015–2016
The 55 was a regular-production racquet in Yonex UK’s range. Between January and June 2015 Yonex UK’s Voltric list changed: by June it no longer showed the 50 Neo, 60, 70, 80 or 9 Neo, and it showed the 55 and the Voltric 0. The 55 was still listed on March 3, 2016; by March 23 the list no longer showed it, the 0 or the 1, and the Voltric Lite and 1TR had arrived. Yonex published no production end, so 2016 is the last year it is documented on sale new. Yonex’s international list of 2015 carried the Taiwan-made 50 Neo, which Yonex UK’s list of June 2015 did not. No Yonex Japan listing of the 55 is known, and Yonex printed no launch price for it in dollars or yen. No verified sales are recorded yet.
Identity before counterfeits
No counterfeit of the Voltric 55 is documented. The practical risk is identity. Item code VT55, a white finish, the 3U label and a Japan factory marking match Yonex UK’s listing. Shop listings also describe a yellow “Voltric 55” rated stiff, with a Power Boost Cap; no Yonex source documents that design, so treat such a frame as unconfirmed rather than as a variant of this one. A frame numbered 50 is one of the Voltric 50s, and a 4U flexible frame numbered 60 is the Voltric 60.
A short chapter in the UK range
The Voltric 55 belongs to Yonex UK’s 2015 range, in which a Japan-made 55 stood where Yonex’s international list had the Taiwan-made 50 Neo. It stayed on Yonex UK’s list until the March 2016 change that brought in the Voltric Lite and 1TR. For a collector it is a thinly documented model: one design, one weight class, Yonex records from one country, and no player.
Yonex’s item code is VT55. Yonex UK lists medium flex, a high-modulus graphite and tungsten frame, a high-modulus graphite shaft, a length 10 mm over standard, 3U (85–89.9 g, average 88 g) with grip G4, White, and Japan as the factory, and recommends 19–24 lb. Yonex listed no 4U VT55 and no other color. A frame numbered 50 is one of the Voltric 50s; a 4U flexible frame numbered 60 is the Voltric 60. Yonex’s general counterfeit guide says the production code on the cap above the handle is laser-engraved rather than printed and the hologram sticker resists peeling.
Look for the VT55 code, the white finish, the 3U label and a Japan marking: together they separate it from the Voltric 50s and the Voltric 60. Most surviving frames will have had club use, so check the head, the slim shaft and the T-joint for cracks and look at the grommets. Yonex documents one design and no player for the 55, so treat a yellow version or a tour connection as unproven without a Yonex source.
