ArcSaber 4DX: the stiff, Taiwan-made DX ArcSaber of Yonex’s 2015 export line
The DX name in the 2015 line
The ArcSaber 4DX (item code ARC4DX) carried the DX name into the 2015 ArcSaber line as a stiff 3U racquet made in Taiwan, in Black/Orange. Yonex’s one line of copy for it read: “DX Frame combines high tension stringing and NANOAIR SPRING to provide greater energy transfer.” It was a model for markets outside Japan, listed on Yonex’s international site for about a year, from February 2015 to early 2016.
Graphite, NANOAIR SPRING and high tension
Yonex’s international product page and Yonex UK’s 2015 brochure give the same specification: Stiff flex, a graphite frame with NANOAIR SPRING, a graphite shaft, 10 mm longer than standard, 3U (average 88 g) and Made in Taiwan; the international page lists grips 4 and 5, the UK brochure grip 4. Yonex UK’s stringing advice for it was 24–30 lb, against 19–24 lb for the ArcSaber 7, 6 FL, FD and Lite on the same page, which fits the high-tension pitch. Unlike the Japan-made 8DX and 5DX of 2010, it had no carbon nanotube listed in its frame.
No named player
Yonex names no player for the 4DX. On Yonex UK’s 2015 style-of-play map its marker is shaded for “intermediate to advanced players with developing skills,” on the control side of the chart.
One color, many neighbors
Yonex documents one design, Black/Orange, under one item code. Its 2015 list-mates on Yonex’s international site were the ArcSaber 11, 9 FL, 7, FB and i-Slash and three other NANOAIR SPRING models: the 4U ArcSaber 6 FL and ArcSaber Lite and the 5U ArcSaber FD. The ArcSaber 2i, which Yonex Japan announced for release in the month the 4DX first appeared on the international list, was also a 3U Black/Orange frame of average 88 g, but Yonex Japan lists it as made in Japan with a carbon-nanotube frame; Yonex never ties the two. Each has its own page.
On Yonex’s international list, 2015–2016
Yonex’s international ArcSaber list added the 4DX between January 24 and February 8, 2015, and still showed it on February 9, 2016; by April 11, 2016 it was gone, leaving five models. Yonex published no production end, so 2016 is the last year a pruning Yonex list documents it on sale. Yonex Japan’s racquet lists of March and December 2015 and January 2016 do not include it. Yonex UK’s 2015 style-of-play map places its marker on the even-balance line. No verified sales are recorded yet.
Fakes and mix-ups
No counterfeit of the ArcSaber 4DX is documented. The likelier confusion is with other DX ArcSabers and with the Japanese 2i: the 8DX (Copper Orange) and 5DX (Gloss Orange or Gloss Magenta) are Japan-made 2010 models, and the 2i is a Japan-made Black/Orange frame coded ARC2I. The ARC4DX code and the Taiwan marking identify this one.
A one-year export model
The 4DX is a short chapter of the 2015 ArcSaber line, when Yonex filled the range below the ArcSaber 11 with Taiwan- and China-made NANOAIR SPRING models. It was the stiff 3U option among them, and it left Yonex’s international list after about a year.
Check the model name ArcSaber 4DX and the item code ARC4DX. Yonex documents one color, Black/Orange, 3U only (average 88 g) with grips 4 and 5, Stiff flex, a graphite frame with NANOAIR SPRING and a graphite shaft, 10 mm longer than standard, and Made in Taiwan. A Black/Orange frame marked Made in Japan or coded ARC2I is the ArcSaber 2i. Yonex UK’s stringing advice was 24–30 lb.
A buyer should confirm the 4DX name and ARC4DX code, the 3U label and the Taiwan marking in photographs, and not mistake it for the Japan-made 2i or the 2010 8DX and 5DX. Ask about the tension it has been strung at, since Yonex UK recommended 24–30 lb, and check the frame for cracks.
