Isometric 23 VF: the graphite-shafted aluminum Isometric, first sold as the Isometric-23
Aluminum head, graphite shaft
The Isometric 23 VF paired an aluminum frame, as on the 20 VF, with a graphite shaft, one weight class lighter at 2U (90–94.9 g) and rated Medium. From 2002, the first year its lists document it, Yonex USA sold it as the Isometric-23 and was calling it the Isometric-23VF by October 2005; Yonex’s 2007 export catalog showed it in blue, made in China.
What Yonex listed
Yonex USA’s Isometric page carried an Isometric-23 from August 2002, and its spec page of February 2004 gives Medium, 2U (90–94 g), an aluminum frame and a graphite shaft. By October 2005 the page called it the Isometric-23VF, with the same specification and a G4 grip. Yonex’s 2007 Badminton Catalogue prints the same with Made in China, without a NEW tag, and Yonex USA’s list from late 2007 adds that it was sold strung. No Yonex document gives a balance point, a length or a price.
No named player
Yonex names no player for the 23 VF and gives no playing level for it.
Two names, then the 24 VF
Yonex does not explain the VF added to the name, and nothing in its listings separates the Isometric-23 from the 23 VF. The Isometric 30 VF of 2005–06 carried the same listed specification, and the 30 DF that replaced it is also Medium and 2U on a graphite shaft; it has its own page. By February 2008 Yonex’s international list showed an Isometric 24 VF in its place: Medium, aluminum on graphite, 2U, made in China; Yonex never says whether it is the same frame, and it has its own page.
Listed from 2002 to 2007
Yonex USA listed it as the Isometric-23 from 2002 to at least mid-2004 and as the 23 VF from 2005. Its Isometric page last changed in 2007 and stayed online unchanged into 2008, while Yonex’s international list had replaced it with the 24 VF by February 2008. The 2007 export catalog is the last Yonex catalog known to show it. No production end is documented, and it does not appear in Yonex Japan’s old-model index. No verified sales are recorded yet.
Telling the names apart
No counterfeit of the Isometric 23 VF is documented. It was also sold as the Isometric-23, and the 30 VF of 2005–06 and the later 24 VF share its listed build, so the model name on the frame is the only firm clue. The 20 VF beside it is a steel-shafted U frame.
The middle of the aluminum Isometrics
Between the steel-shafted 20 VF and the graphite 75MF Light, the 23 VF was the middle rung of Yonex’s export Isometric range in the mid-2000s. Its record is a few Yonex USA lists and one catalog page.
Yonex documents the 23 VF as Medium, 2U (90–94.9 g) with a G4 grip, an aluminum frame on a graphite shaft, made in China; a steel shaft or a U class points to the 20 VF. The 2007 catalog shows it in blue. Read the model name on the frame, since the 30 VF and 24 VF share the listed build and its earlier name was Isometric-23. On an aluminum frame, check the hoop for bends and the frame-to-shaft joint for looseness.
Confirm the “23 VF” name and the 2U weight before assuming a match. Yonex documents no balance, length or price for this model, and it was sold strung, so check the age and condition of the string bed and grip.
