Isometric 25 DF: Yonex’s Stiff aluminum-and-steel DURA-Frame Isometric of 2006–07

Aluminum head, steel shaft, DURA-Frame

The Isometric 25 DF put an aluminum Isometric head on a steel shaft, rated Stiff and offered only in the U class (95–99.9 g) with a G4 grip. Yonex’s 2006 Badminton Catalog, finished by May 2006, tagged it NEW in silver and red, made in China; Yonex USA listed it from November 2006, and the 2007 export Badminton Catalogue showed it in blue and silver. That catalog’s spec table gives its frame technology as DURA-Frame, where the 20 VF and 23 VF beside it are Vari-Frame and the 75MF Light is Mega-Frame. Yonex does not spell out the “DF” in the name.

What Yonex listed

Yonex’s 2006 catalog prints the ISOMETRIC-25DF as Stiff, with an aluminum frame, a steel shaft, U(95–99.9 g)/G4 and “Made in China”. Yonex USA’s Isometric page of November 2006 gives the same a Stiff flex, an aluminum frame, a steel shaft and U (95–99.9 g) with a G4 grip; by October 2007 the same page adds that it was sold strung. The 2007 catalog’s product block prints the same frame, shaft, weight and grip, the colors Blue / Silver and “Made in China”, but leaves its flex line blank; the spec table a few pages on fills it in as Stiff. No Yonex document gives a balance point, a length, a stringing range for it alone or a price.

No named player

Yonex names no player for the 25 DF, and its listings give no playing level for it.

One build, several names

On Yonex USA’s 2006–08 page the 25 DF sat with the 75MF Light, the 30 DF, the 23 VF, the 20 VF and the 20 Jr, a junior model. It shares its listed build with the 20 VF on the same page and with the Isometric 22 VF that Yonex’s international Isometric list carried from February 2008 (Stiff, aluminum on steel, U, G4, made in China). Yonex never says whether any of these is the same frame; its 2007 table labels the 25 DF DURA-Frame and the 20 VF Vari-Frame. Yonex’s 2000 Asian catalog shows an earlier Isometric-25, also aluminum on steel in U, and no Yonex source connects the two.

Listed 2006–2007

The earliest Yonex record is the 2006 Badminton Catalog, finished by May 2006, which tags the 25 DF NEW; the tag is evidence of a 2006 launch, not proof of the date. Yonex USA’s Isometric page showed it from November 2006; its page of February 2006 did not yet list it. The page last changed in 2007 and was still online, unchanged, in March 2008; by September 2008 it was gone. The 2006 and 2007 catalogs are the only Yonex catalogs known to show the model, and Yonex’s international Isometric list of February 2008 has the 22 VF instead. Yonex China’s product menu carried the code ISO-25DF from December 2007 into 2009. No production end is documented, and no Yonex Japan listing is known. No verified sales are recorded yet.

Telling the names apart

No counterfeit of the Isometric 25 DF is documented. The risk is a mix-up of names: the 20 VF, the 22 VF and the 2000 Isometric-25 all have the same listed aluminum-and-steel build in U, so the model name printed on the frame decides which racquet it is.

A starter between two names

The 25 DF is one of the aluminum starter Isometrics Yonex sold outside Japan in the 2000s, listed across 2006–07, between the 20 VF era and the 22 VF. Its record is two Yonex catalogs, one showing it in silver and red and one in blue and silver, and one Yonex USA page.

Authentication

Yonex documents the 25 DF as Stiff, U (95–99.9 g) with a G4 grip, an aluminum frame on a steel shaft, made in China; Yonex showed it in silver and red (2006 catalog) and in blue and silver (2007). A graphite shaft, a 2U or 3U class or a G5 grip points to a different model. Read the model name on the frame, since the 20 VF and 22 VF share the listed build and the 2000 Isometric-25 has the same digits. Yonex USA sold it strung. On an aluminum frame, check the hoop for bends and the steel shaft for rust or kinks.

Outlook

Confirm the “25DF” name and the U weight before treating a frame as this model; Yonex showed it in silver and red (2006 catalog) and in blue and silver (2007). Yonex documents no balance, length or price for it, so a listing that quotes one is relying on another source. Expect ordinary club wear on a frame sold strung as a starter.
