Nanoflare 800 Play: the plain-graphite beginner model of the Deep Green 800 family
The beginner’s Nanoflare 800
Yonex announced the second-generation Nanoflare 800 from Tokyo on October 15, 2023, for a worldwide launch on November 17 in four models, Pro, Tour, Game and Play, “each developed with the same performance concept but featuring variations in the materials used and technologies equipped.” The Play is the bottom of that ladder. Yonex USA lists its player type as beginner and describes it as designed for recreational players, and sells it only strung. It shares the family’s name, its Deep Green paint and its 10 mm longer length, but almost none of the materials that define the upper tiers.
Plain graphite, no copper
Yonex’s release builds the 2023 Nanoflare 800 around the Enhanced Sonic Flare System, the Wide Profile Frame and a new stringing pattern that adds one cross string. It assigns the full combination to the Pro and Tour and lists the new pattern for the Pro, Tour and Game only. Yonex’s spec tables give the Play a graphite frame and a graphite shaft, with no HM graphite, Nanocell NEO or copper, and its 2024 USA catalog prints no joint for it. The catalog lists Isometric, the Sonic Flare System, the Aero Frame and a slim shaft; Yonex USA adds an enlarged frame top and Energy Boost Cap Plus. Yonex rates the flex medium and offers one weight, 4U (average 83 g), with grip 5 or 6, and recommends 20–28 lb.
No named player
No professional player is documented using the Nanoflare 800 Play. The players Yonex named at launch belong to the 800 Pro’s story, on its own page.
Four tiers in one green
All four 2023 models are Deep Green, with what Yonex calls semi-exposed stripes of carbon graphite, so the tiers are told apart by specification. The Pro (NF-800P) and Tour (NF-800T) are stiff and come in 3U and 4U; the Game (NF-800G) is medium and 4U like the Play but keeps the copper frame and the new pattern. Yonex USA gives the Play a 22 × 22 string pattern against 22 × 21 on the Tour. No other color or edition of the Play is documented. “Play” is a tier name Yonex also uses for the Nanoflare 1000 Play in Lightning Yellow and the 2024 Nanoflare 700 Play, both different racquets.
An export model, still in the catalog
The Play is in production. Yonex’s global store was listing it in stock by late November 2023 and still listed it “In stock” in October 2026, beside the other three tiers. Yonex USA’s 2024 catalog lists it, and Yonex USA sells it as a strung racquet in 4U with grip 5. Yonex Japan does not sell it: its 2024, 2025 and 2026 catalogs carry only the 800 Pro and Game. No launch price is documented for the Play. No verified sales are recorded yet.
Copies and borrowed descriptions
No counterfeit specific to the Nanoflare 800 Play is documented. Its item code is the likeliest source of confusion: Yonex’s global product page printed it as NF-800P, the Pro’s code, in late November 2023, and read NF-800PL by May 2024. Yonex USA’s product text credits the Play with high-modulus graphite at the top and bottom of the frame, wording that fits the upper tiers; Yonex’s spec rows list its frame as graphite only. A listing that quotes copper, Nanocell NEO or a 3U option is describing another tier.
An entry point to the 800 line
The Play puts the Nanoflare 800 name and Deep Green finish on a medium-flex, plain-graphite racquet for recreational players, sold strung in the United States. It has no documented player, special edition or second color. As a current export model it has nothing yet to date it; a documented end of production or a color change would be the first such marker.
Check the item code NF-800PL (Yonex USA writes NF800PL). A frame or listing coded NF-800P is the Pro by Yonex’s code. Yonex offers the Play only in 4U (average 83 g, grip 5 or 6), rates it medium flex, and lists it 10 mm longer than standard; Yonex recommends 20–28 lb. Frame and shaft are graphite. The only color is Deep Green, shared with the Pro, Tour and Game. Yonex Far East lists it as made in Taiwan. A 3U label or a stiff rating points to a Pro or Tour.
A current model sold new, strung in the United States, so most buyers will take a new one. For a used frame, ask for photographs of the model name, the NF-800PL code and the weight label, and check the frame and T-joint for cracks. Because four tiers share the name and color, confirm the tier before comparing a listing with any other Nanoflare 800.
