Voltric 11 DG Slim: the 2019 DG Slim with the stiff DGs’ compact head, rated medium
The compact-headed DG Slim
The Voltric 11 DG Slim (item VT11DGSL; Yonex China printed VT11DGSLEX) is the Spark Gold member of the DG Slim line, the four slim-shafted Voltrics, the 2, 8, 11 and 21 DG Slim, that followed Yonex’s original DG Voltrics in 2019. Its technology list is the one Yonex gave the stiff 10 DG and 20 DG, compact frame and TRI-iBUMPER grommets included, with a slim shaft added. Yonex rated it medium flex rather than stiff. Its documented channels were Yonex China and Yonex’s international site.
Launched in April 2019
Yonex China’s page for it, online by April 5, 2019, was titled “launched April 2019” (2019年4月上市), as were the pages for the other three DG Slims. Yonex lists it as medium flex, 3U (average 88 g) with grips 4 and 5, a frame of high-modulus graphite, ULTRA HMG and tungsten, a high-modulus graphite shaft and a length 10 mm over standard; Yonex China gives Taiwan as the place of origin. Yonex recommends 24–35 lb in 3U, the high-tension rating of the DG line. Yonex’s international page lists the Tri-Voltage System, Isometric, the AERO+BOX frame, a built-in T-joint, the Control Support Cap, a new grommet pattern, the slim shaft, TRI-iBUMPER (“tungsten infused grommets maximize the contact time between shuttle and string”) and a compact frame, “made smaller to maintain the fast swing”. Yonex documents no balance for it.
No player on record
No player is documented with the Voltric 11 DG Slim, and neither Yonex China’s page nor Yonex’s international page names one. Yonex UK’s pages for the 21 and 8 DG Slim spell DG out as “Durable Grade”, a thicker frame with more inner-frame supports. Yonex UK did not list the 11 itself.
Spark Gold, third of four
Yonex showed one design, Spark Gold (color 628 on Yonex China’s page). In Yonex China’s suggested prices the 11 sat third of the four DG Slims, above the 2 and 8 and below the 21. The Voltric 2 DG Slim is the Hi-Flex, orange rung without the compact frame or TRI-iBUMPER; the 8 DG Slim and 21 DG Slim complete the line, and each has its own page. Against the 2016 Voltric 10 DG, the original DG with the same technology list, the 11 adds the slim shaft and drops from stiff to medium; the 10 DG has its own page.
Listed into late 2020
Yonex’s international site came to the DG Slims late. Its Voltric list of January and July 2020 still named the original 1, 7, 10 and 20 DG; the list of the rebuilt site showed the four DG Slims in their place, all in stock, in September and November 2020, and by June 2021 it held only the GlanZ and the Lite. Yonex UK’s list took only the 21 and 8 DG Slim, and Yonex USA’s 2021 catalog lists only those two. No Yonex source states a production end; Yonex’s international list last showed the 11 in November 2020. No Yonex launch price in dollars or yen is documented. No verified sales are recorded yet.
Mix-ups more than fakes
No counterfeit of the 11 DG Slim is documented. The practical risk is identity. Yonex’s English-language pages also showed the stiff Voltric 10 DG in gold, with the same weight class, length and stringing advice, so the model name and code decide: VT11DGSL for this racquet, VT10DG for the 2016 frame. The other DG Slims share its 3U class, length and 24–35 lb advice, so read the number on the frame as well as the color.
Between two phases of the DG line
The 11 DG Slim is the frame that carried the stiff DGs’ compact head and TRI-iBUMPER grommets into the slim-shafted second phase of the line, at a medium rating. It was listed for about two years, through Yonex’s Chinese and international sites, and never reached Yonex’s UK list or its US catalog. For a collector it is the closest DG Slim to the 10 DG in construction.
Yonex’s item code is VT11DGSL (Yonex China printed VT11DGSLEX), and Yonex China lists it as made in Taiwan. Yonex gives medium flex, 3U (average 88 g) with grips 4 and 5, a frame of high-modulus graphite, ULTRA HMG and tungsten, a high-modulus graphite shaft and a length 10 mm over standard, in Spark Gold; Yonex recommends 24–35 lb. A stiff gold frame coded VT10DG is the 2016 Voltric 10 DG; an orange Hi-Flex frame is the 2 DG Slim; frames named 8 DG Slim or 21 DG Slim are its siblings. Yonex’s own checks: the production code on the cap above the handle is laser-engraved, and the hologram sticker resists peeling.
Look for the VT11DGSL code, the 3U label, the Spark Gold finish and the DG Slim name on the frame, and ask for photographs of the frame print, the cap and the grip label. Yonex documents no player or edition and one design, so treat any tour connection or rare-variant claim as unproven. A frame rated to 35 lb may have spent years at high tension: check the head, the grommets and the T-joint for cracks.
