Voltric 2 DG Slim: the orange, Hi-Flex bottom rung of Yonex’s 2019 DG Slim Voltrics
The first rung of the DG Slims
The Voltric 2 DG Slim (Yonex China item VT2DGSLEX) is the orange entry rung of the DG Slim line, the four slim-shafted Voltrics, the 2, 8, 11 and 21 DG Slim, that followed Yonex’s original DG Voltrics in 2019. It carried the lowest suggested price of the four on Yonex China’s site. Yonex rated it Hi-Flex and still gave it the 24–35 lb stringing advice of every DG frame. Its documented channels were Yonex China and Yonex’s international site. It shares only its number with the Voltric 2 of 2014.
Launched in April 2019
Yonex China’s page for it, online by April 5, 2019, was titled “launched April 2019” (2019年4月上市), like the pages for the other three DG Slims. Yonex lists it as Hi-Flex (soft, 软, on Yonex China’s page), 3U (average 88 g) with grips 4 and 5, a frame of high-modulus graphite, ULTRA HMG and tungsten, a high-modulus graphite shaft and a length 10 mm over standard; Yonex China gives Taiwan as the place of origin. Yonex recommends 24–35 lb in 3U. Yonex’s international page lists the Tri-Voltage System, Isometric, the AERO+BOX frame, a built-in T-joint, the Control Support Cap, a new grommet pattern and a slim shaft: the 1 DG and 7 DG list with the last two added. The compact frame and TRI-iBUMPER grommets of the 11 DG Slim are absent. Yonex documents no balance for it.
No player on record
No player is documented with the Voltric 2 DG Slim, and neither Yonex China’s page nor Yonex’s international page names one. Yonex UK’s pages for the 21 and 8 DG Slim spell DG out as “Durable Grade”, a thicker frame with more inner-frame supports. Yonex UK did not list the 2 itself.
Orange, and two other Voltric 2s
Yonex showed one design, orange (color 005 on Yonex China’s page). Its DG Slim siblings each have their own page: the 8 DG Slim, the Spark Gold 11 DG Slim with the compact frame, and the 21 DG Slim. Two earlier racquets carry the number: the Voltric 2 of 2014 (item VT2), a 4U, medium-flex black/red frame, and the yellow Voltric 2 LD of 2015, which repeats that specification in Lin Dan Exclusive colors; both have their own pages. None of the original DGs was a 2: they were the 1, 7 and 10 DG of 2016 and the 20 DG of 2018.
Listed into late 2020
Yonex’s international site came to the DG Slims late. Its Voltric list of January and July 2020 still named the original 1, 7, 10 and 20 DG; the list of the rebuilt site showed the four DG Slims in their place, all in stock, in September and November 2020, and by June 2021 it held only the GlanZ and the Lite. Yonex UK’s list took only the 21 and 8 DG Slim, and Yonex USA’s 2021 catalog lists only those two. No Yonex source states a production end; Yonex’s international list last showed the 2 in November 2020. No Yonex launch price in dollars or yen is documented. No verified sales are recorded yet.
Mix-ups more than fakes
No counterfeit of the 2 DG Slim is documented. The practical risk is identity. Yonex’s English-language pages also showed the Voltric 1 DG in orange, with the same weight class, length and stringing advice, so the model name and code decide: VT2DGSLEX for this racquet, VT1DG for the 2016 frame. Listings that say only “Voltric 2” may mean the 2014 racquet, which is 4U where the DG Slim is 3U.
The plainest DG Slim
The 2 DG Slim sat at the bottom of the DG Slim line in Yonex China’s prices and, with the 8 DG Slim, was one of its two Hi-Flex frames. It was listed for about two years, through Yonex’s Chinese and international sites, and never reached Yonex’s UK list or its US catalog. For a collector it is the plainest of the four and the third Voltric to carry the number 2.
Yonex China’s item code is VT2DGSLEX, and Yonex China lists it as made in Taiwan. Yonex gives Hi-Flex, 3U (average 88 g) with grips 4 and 5, a frame of high-modulus graphite, ULTRA HMG and tungsten, a high-modulus graphite shaft and a length 10 mm over standard, in orange; Yonex recommends 24–35 lb. An orange frame coded VT1DG is the Voltric 1 DG; a 4U black/red frame coded VT2 is the 2014 Voltric 2; a yellow 4U frame with LD marks is the Voltric 2 LD; a Spark Gold frame is the 11 DG Slim. Yonex’s own checks: the production code on the cap above the handle is laser-engraved, and the hologram sticker resists peeling.
Look for the DG Slim name and the 2 on the frame, the 3U label and the orange finish, and ask for photographs of the frame print, the cap and the grip label. Yonex documents no player or edition and one design, so treat any tour connection or rare-variant claim as unproven. A frame rated to 35 lb may have spent years at high tension: check the head, the grommets and the T-joint for cracks.
