Voltric 1: a flexible 2015 Voltric whose name first appeared on a pink Lee Chong Wei frame
A name that arrived in pink
The Voltric 1 name first appeared in August 2014, on a dark pink frame. Yonex’s international site listed it as the Voltric 1 LCW (item VT1LCW) in its Lee Chong Wei limited-edition gear, beside the Voltric Z-Force II LCW, the Voltric Force LCW and LCW shoes and clothing; it has its own page. The standard Voltric 1, item VT1, followed in January 2015 in White/Gold and White/Red. It is missing from Yonex’s international Voltric list on December 31, 2014 and present on January 30, 2015, in the slot the Voltric 2 had held. Yonex rated it flexible and listed it as 4U (average 83 g) and made in Taiwan. It lasted about a year: Yonex’s international Voltric list still showed it in February 2016, and by March the Voltric 1TR had taken its place.
Tri-Voltage on the second rung
Yonex USA described it in one line: “Quick racquet handling and TRI-VOLTAGE SYSTEM provides powerful, stable shots.” The frame is graphite and tungsten and the shaft plain graphite; in Yonex UK’s 2015 brochure the Voltric 7 above it had a high-modulus graphite frame. Yonex UK lists four technologies: the Tri-Voltage System, Isometric, the Built-in T-Joint and the Control Support Cap. Extra weight at the top of a frame used to add power at the cost of handling, Yonex explained, and Tri-Voltage combined the two by balancing the weight at the top of the frame and at the joint, with thin frame sides. Isometric equalizes the main and cross strings to enlarge the sweet spot. Yonex lists the frame 10 mm longer than standard and recommends 19–24 lb. Its 2015 UK style-of-play map placed the Voltric 1 on the head-heavy side, the mildest lean of the six Voltrics it plotted.
No player on record
No Yonex source ties a player to the Voltric 1. The pink version was named for Lee Chong Wei, but Yonex’s August 2014 announcement of his limited gear described only the Voltric Z-Force II LCW as his racquet, so the Voltric 1 LCW was a collection piece in his colors, not a frame he is documented using. Yonex gave the Voltric 1 no player level. In the 2015 range the “entry players” label went to the China-made Voltric 0 below it; it has its own page.
White/Gold, White/Red and dark pink
Yonex listed the standard frame in White/Gold and White/Red. The dark pink Voltric 1 LCW (VT1LCW), which Yonex UK filed under the plain VT1, came first, in Lee Chong Wei’s 2014 limited-edition gear; it has its own page. Several later racquets reuse the number. The Voltric 1LD of Lin Dan Exclusive II (announced October 2015) is 3U and made in China, and the Voltric 1 DG (VT1DG) is a 3U, medium-flex frame first sold in 2016. The Voltric 1TR (VT1TR) that replaced it in 2016 is a 4U frame rated medium, with high-modulus graphite and 19–26 lb stringing advice, in Silver/Red or White/Blue; it has its own page. Its predecessor, the Voltric 2 (VT2), was a 4U, medium-flex Black/Red frame; it has its own page.
A year in the export range
The Voltric 1 was an export model, sold through Yonex’s US, UK and global sites; it does not appear in Yonex Japan’s range in the records checked. Yonex’s Voltric list carried the standard frame for about thirteen months, from January 2015 to February 2016. No verified sales are recorded yet. Many listings titled simply “Voltric 1”, especially in Japan, turn out to be the 3U Voltric 1 DG, so the weight class and item code matter more than the title.
Fakes and look-alikes
No counterfeit specific to the Voltric 1 has been documented. The risk is a mix-up within the family. Seven Yonex frames of 2014–2016 carry the lowest Voltric numbers: five 4U frames (the Voltric 2, the 1 LCW, the standard 1, the 1TR and the Voltric 0) and the 3U 1LD and 1 DG. Sellers often drop the suffix, so a “Voltric 1” can be any of four racquets. A dark pink 4U frame sold as a Lee Chong Wei model may be the 1 LCW or the stiff Voltric Force LCW (VTFLCW), both collection pieces; his match racquet was the 3U Z-Force II LCW.
A short-lived rung
The Voltric 1 belongs to the late, crowded lower end of the Voltric line, after the series had moved to the E-tune flagships. Yonex’s international Voltric list of March 2016 replaced it with the 1TR, the Voltric 0F and the Voltric Lite; the 1TR, the Voltric 0 (with its 0F revision) and the Lite have their own pages. For a collector its interest is the Lee Chong Wei link of the pink frame and the tangle of Voltric 1s that followed, rather than any tour record.
Yonex’s item code is VT1. Yonex lists it as flexible, 4U (average 83 g) and made in Taiwan, with a graphite and tungsten frame and a graphite shaft, in White/Gold or White/Red. A dark pink 4U frame is a Lee Chong Wei edition: the Voltric 1 LCW (VT1LCW) or the stiff Voltric Force LCW (VTFLCW), each with its own page. A 3U frame is not a Voltric 1: a China-made 3U frame with LD marks is the Voltric 1LD, and one coded VT1DG is the Voltric 1 DG. A VT1TR code (Silver/Red or White/Blue) is the 2016 Voltric 1TR, and a China-made White/Blue VT0 is the Voltric 0. Yonex recommends 19–24 lb. Yonex’s own checks: a hologram sticker that resists peeling, cleanly printed YY and YONEX logos, and a laser-engraved production code on the cap above the handle.
An export Voltric that Yonex listed for little more than a year, best known for its pink Lee Chong Wei version. Confirm the item code and weight class in photographs, since the Voltric 1 name covers several different frames. Treat any claim that a pink frame was a player’s match racquet as unproven. No verified sales are recorded yet, so there is no market reference for this model.
