Astrox Attack 9: a strung beginner Astrox that Yonex rates Head Light and Hi-Flex
An Astrox on a speed spec
The Astrox Attack 9 (Yonex USA model number AXA9GE) is a pre-strung racquet for beginners, first documented by Yonex in January 2026, when Yonex USA added it to its store. Yonex aims it at beginners “looking to develop an attacking game,” yet its specification reads like a speed racquet: Balance Head Light, Shaft Flex Hi-Flex and Performance Speed, where Yonex USA’s other Astrox pages print Head Heavy. Its construction copy matches, almost word for word, that of the Nanoflare Speed 7 that Yonex USA listed the same day.
Carbon, a T-joint and Nanoflare wording
Yonex USA lists a carbon frame and carbon shaft with a built-in T-joint, Hi-Flex, a 22 x 22 string pattern, 4U with a G4 grip, and string advice of 20–27 lb. Its technologies are Isometric, Slim Shaft, Control Support Cap, Sonic Flare System, Aero Frame, Enlarged Frame Top and Energy Boost Cap Plus. The Sonic Flare System is the Nanoflare technology Yonex introduced with the Nanoflare 700, and the description puts it plainly: “High modulus graphite at the top and bottom of the frame enhances shuttle acceleration.” The list names two butt caps, while the description names only the E.B.Cap Plus. Yonex gives no length and no country of manufacture.
No named player
No player is documented on the Attack 9. Yonex USA lists it under Player Type Beginner and pitches it at “players ready to step into a more aggressive style of play.”
Black, Turquoise and an older 9
Yonex USA offers two colors, Black (007) and Turquoise (161), both 4U with a G4 grip. Listings elsewhere show further colors and lighter weights that no Yonex page documents. The Astrox 9 (AX9) of Yonex’s 2018 catalog is a different racquet: stiff, with an HM graphite and tungsten frame and a Nanomesh Neo shaft, 10 mm longer, in 3U and 4U. No other “Attack” number appears on Yonex USA’s store. The Nanoflare Speed 7 (NF-S7GE) shares the Attack 9’s 4UG4 size and construction, and the strung, medium-flex Astrox 10 that followed in September 2026 has its own page.
A Yonex USA listing
The Attack 9 is current, on Yonex USA’s store at $55, pre-strung, in 2026. Yonex’s global site and Yonex Japan’s catalogs do not list it, and Yonex USA’s 2024 catalog does not include it; that catalog’s entry-level Astrox models were the Hi-Flex Astrox 02 Ability, Clear and Feel, the Astrox 01 Ability, Clear and Feel and the aluminum-framed Astrox E13; each has its own page. Its twin, the Speed 7, was sold by shops in India from 2024, so January 2026 is the first Yonex record of the Attack 9, not a documented launch date. No verified sales are recorded yet.
Template copy and the wrong 9
No counterfeit of the Attack 9 is documented. Mix-ups are the likelier problem. Copy that calls it head-heavy repeats the Astrox template rather than Yonex USA’s field for this model. A racquet sold as an “Astrox 9” with tungsten, Nanomesh Neo or a stiff shaft is the 2018 AX9. The callout lists the checks.
A starter with a different label
The Attack 9 is a current, mass-produced starter racquet. What sets it apart is the label: an Astrox name on a Head Light, Hi-Flex carbon frame whose description it shares with a Nanoflare.
Yonex USA’s model number is AXA9GE, in Black (007) or Turquoise (161). Yonex documents a carbon frame and shaft with a built-in T-joint, Hi-Flex, Head Light balance, a 22 x 22 string pattern and 4U with a G4 grip, and recommends 20–27 lb. Yonex documents no length and no country of manufacture. Colors, weights or a made-in claim beyond these have no Yonex source. The 2018 Astrox 9 (AX9) is stiff, with a tungsten frame and Nanomesh Neo shaft, and was made in 3U as well as 4U.
The Attack 9 is current and sold strung, so most players will buy it new. For a used one, confirm the AXA9 code, Black or Turquoise, and the 4U G4 label, and ask about the string and its tension: Yonex recommends 20–27 lb. Treat a listing that calls it stiff, head-heavy or tungsten-framed as describing a different Astrox.
